If I were to get one of these it seems updating via the phone or SEUS is a bad idea. Should I only take it to a service centre to get the fw updated?
Also does the phone reboot randomly or when you do something specific?
I thought the latest 037 fw solved everything. Did it take this long for the K800 to get stable? I dont even remember having any problems with the k800.

@zombiecat .. sounds like your battery is flat.
When it's BROD it won't charge, so you'd need to get a desktop charger (I got 2 batteries and a charger for a few quid on ebay)
kulankendi should then find it when the battery has charged which should fix it, although needs a full format.

@ Zombiecat:
This happened to my phone without having BROD first. I did have the same red light on the top of the phone, and neither Davinci or Wotan recognized it, just SEUS but then it couldn't do anything.. I had to send it to Sony to fix.
Good luck.

Hi
I've been having real difficulties trying to get my T-Mobile UK K850i to update to the latest SW version. It's taken multiple attempts for SEUS to get to the 'identifying' step (rather then the phone loading into phone transfer mode) only to be told no update is available!
I took it into my local Carphone Warehouse - they 'updated' it, which seemed to solely consist of them doing a master reset given it was return with identical FW to that it was handed in with! (R1DA038)
T-Mobile telephone CS have been useless so I'm about to write to the Director of CS to see if I have more luck but would be interested to know if any other T-Mobile UK customers have managed to get their phone past 038?
Thanks
Alan

Tomorrow my phone will have one month since the purchase date. During this period I have experienced exactly 4 (four) reboots, none of them unrecoverable. The phone rebooted once while adjusting the equalizer in media player, once when I was looking at my pictures using "Media" menu and switched to next and previous picture (way too fast for its processing power), once while searching for bluetooth enabled devices in order to send a file. I can't remember the circumstances of the fourth reboot.
My device is a December 2007 edition and so far did not accumulate any dust under the camera lens cover or under the screen cover.
FW version is R1DA038.
I wrote to Sony Ericsson AB, explained what BROD is and asked them if they have heard about this strange problem. The first reply was gibberish as they completely avoided the answer, instead giving me directions about how to update my FW. I wrote back, asking them again about BROD and making it clear that I know how to update the phone's software but I am afraid to do it because it might render the phone unusable. The very next day (today, that is) they answered. Guess what they said: the last software version available for the Sony Ericsson K850i is
R1DA.
I'm baffled. According to them, R1EA does not exist. Chew on that, K850i users!

Thanks for the advice dude; unfortunately it's not a dead battery that's causing the problem

Used a fully-charged battery from a W580i, no dice I'm afraid...

Thanks mate. Looks like this is the only option. Phone actually belongs to the company I work for, so no worries. Maybe I should just take the bloody thing outside and stamp on it anyway

In the meantime, it's back to my trusty P990i (it's bilingual T9 kicks ass

Hmm - although if they're saying R1DA is the latest version that would at least fit with what Carphone Warehouse were saying to me. Is it an unbranded phone you have?

@catalinux
My best bet is that someone at sony spill the beans on the up coming firmware which will probably carry the R1DA serial because if you carefully look at it its not making to much of sense but again as we acustom doing we wil continue to do so which is wait and see, so for all we know update is probably in its final stage getting ready to launch ... just hope I am right
