Anyone know if this is true? "After the update to Android 2.1 has been installed, you would need to reinstall all applications/games."

But one thing it did I liked was make my LED flash blue when new emails came in. Would be nice to be able to change that on the X10 itself so that eg it flashed blue for new emails, green for new SMS, red for critical battery, orange for new MMS, yellow for missed calls etc. It would also keep it in step with the rainbow colour effect the other Xperia phones used to use.

Q: is this true? "After the update to Android 2.1 has been installed, you would need to reinstall all applications/games." all wipe?
A: Very likely. Any update will wipe the phone. The downloaded applications will still be listed in the Android Market though.
Q: okey, even over fota? don't happned for the updates before.
A: "I'm not sure if the 2.1 update will be available over FOTA or not."

That's rubbish from SE.

The least they can do is export some kind of simple text list of installed non-native apps that can be stored via the SEMC back up service (eg) after a sync and then the user can at least have a handy list to use to go back into Android Market and download all over again.

I dont think you understood. Every app/game you download from the market is logged to your Gmail account, so when after you have formatted/updated your Android, you log back into your Gmail account when your phone tells you to, the go to thd Market app, go to Downloads, and all the apps/games you had just before formatting are there waiting to be redownloaded, but you can also use the built-in SE Back-up and Restore app, which backs up everything to SD and then you can restore all after the update/formatt.

The last update I did last week offered me the choice to full wipe and install or keep settings, apps and data. It may a feature recently added to SEUS, but then it may just be for small updates rather than a version change 1.6 -> 2.1.

The android market remembers the apps you've downloaded, and if you uninstall a paid for app you don't need to pay for it again, Google kindly keeps your record. My problem is that I've installed a number of apps from outside the market so they aren't remembered. Fortunately I keep the apks on my memory card just in case.

@Ricky_D

Download Appbrain free from Market.

This allows you to manage your phones Apps on your PC really easily. It shows you the list of Apps that you have installed on your phone and lets you manage their status - install / uninstall, as well as add more.

Then when you sync, using Appbrain on your phone, it updates the phone with the status of the same App on the PC. Easy peasy!

Highly recommended and you log in with your google id.
