When speaking of the panel speed, I believe some poeple speak of either switching between different panel formations (which is actually smooth and fast compared to all the prototype videos), or, actually activating a panel (which is slow to respond and load once pressed).

would it be worth swapping my g900i for an x1?
It depends on what you need in a phone. If g900 give the services you want then you can stay with it. But if you want a Windows mobile OS,3 inch screen,etc... then go for x1.
i dont care about the camera.i mostly use my phone for texting, wifi and music
Ok,are you satisfied with the browser, sounds and keypad of your g900? With X1,texting is like using a keyboard so it is faster. Internet,we have opera mobile which is good in browsing for a phone. With music, its good enough but not fantastic.
Actually, no, with music, it's bad not good. Seriously, are we using the same phone? Please, don't mislead people on this aspect of the phone! The Media Experience Panel is Broken in regards to the music player!!! WMP on the other hand is a pain and chore to both get too, and use! Sure music sounds pretty decent coming out of the 3.5 mm headphone jack, but TRYING to use this phone for music listening purposes sucks. My N95 8GB beat this POS hands down in almost every category in regards to the music listening experience! The quality of a music player nowadays is determined by more than just the music coming out of the headphone jack (forget listening to music out of the speaker too btw, it's tiny)... As it currently stands, the X1 as a MP3 player blows.
@ MyP910 the X1 IS slow as a phone, not buts and/or if's about it...
@ ashyk36, keep your current phone. I can't recommend this phone to you on a clear conscience if you seriously plan on using it to listen to music. Your current phone is way better at playing music out of the box than this thing, I promise you.

@borisisinvin:
If you haven't already, maybe you should get rid of your X1 before the return period is up. This ain't the phone for you

as a phone, X1 is fast. as for the panel, as somone said waiting for 2 - 4 seconds is slow, but to me its not and I'm not switching the panel quite often. my default panel is tge sony ericsson panel since I like to see a lot of information on the screen (calendar, appointment, task list, connectivity...).
but as a phone, it is fast. most of the applications( phonebook, dialer, sms, email, calendar, ym...) load instantly with no waiting time (maybe because I let all the applications running at the background). Even the tomtom load very fast compared to p910 and the gps lock faster than my bluetooth gps receiver.
the phone is fast. I don't know if we are talking on a different phone here.

So, I just want to get this straight. Is stereo bluetooth broken in this phone? I seem to see only one or two people complaining about this, yet I've seen no one state that it works. I'm more interested in hearing from those of you X1 owners who keep stating that the phone has absolutely no problems. Does stereo bluetooth work? Or am I just the only person who hates wires and therefore the only one who cares?

You know what, you may have a point there with that. I close all of my apps after I'm done using them. Im a total control freak. Has your phone locked up on you btw while browsing/switching the panels? It seems that if I don't remember to do a soft reset every night I can expect it to lock up (hard, like I mentioned before) the next day like clock work... It's extremely annoying to say the least.
@Whybe, actually I bought the phone unlocked from a Hong Kong importer on eBay for close to MSRP, and am now stuck with my phone. Believe me, if I could I would have already returned this pig in lipstick for a FULL refund. I had the phone for about a day and a half when I sold my N95 8GB... So, needless to say I'm extremely frustrated with my purchase. I went so far as to play with a display model in a Sony Style store and read many glowing reviews on the device from many different sources (one from a now decidedly quiet Mizzle who gave an exceptionally glowing review of the phone that I took at face value) before making what I thought to be a informed purchase. I have never owned a WM phone, and had modest expectations for this device (since I knew it was a WM powered device after all, and generally reviled for that by the critics, and rightfully so). I can't express in words how much I dislike WM... Aside from the obvious problem I have with the WM OS, I don't think that SE did enough on their end to hide that monster, or even deliver the goods on what they promised (I'm looking at you Media Experience Panel...). I think I'm with in my rights to do a little bitchin' and moaning for the $750.00 I just spent on my device. If what I'm saying helps any other buyers on the fence avoid a big purchase they may regret in the future, then all the better for me.
@ malkmus stereo bluetooth works. You can get it to stream and play on a stereo bluetooth enabled deck or set of headphones, provided the deck or headphones can initiate the connection with the phone THEMSELVES. I can listen to music over my car deck, however I can NOT control my music (with AVCRP) when using the Sony Media Experience Panel, which as I've mentioned many times before is a broken piece of software. I believe AVCRP support works with WMP as someone else mentioned, but have yet to try it. So, as you can see it's a far from perfect implementation.
@ Any of you still on the fence about this phone and/or WM who don't have any experience with this particular OS, here's the conclusion to a recent "Battlemodo" from Gizmodo about Opera 9.5 on the Xperia, Touch Pro, and Omnia. It nicely summarizes my feelings about WM way better than I ever could, while also talking about it's now very obvious shortcomings (hindsight is 20 20 as they say). It also addresses and rebuts any argument any here would make to defend WM on the X1:
Conclusion
So where would I slot Opera 9.5 overall if I were to slide it into the previous browser battle? I'd give it a B-. It has a great, desktop-y UI (though I wish a few of the buttons were a smidge bigger, taking into consideration fat fingers and the inadequacies of resistive touchscreens). It's really competent, and it has a solid zoom metaphor, with the double taps usually working like a charm. And it has extras like tabs. But, and this is the big but, it still doesn't feel quite as smooth or instantly responsive as Safari or Android's browser. It's clearly an OS issue, though, not an Opera one.
Speaking to that, testing these three phones actually took longer than it did to test the six in the original Battlemodo, entirely because of how much wrestling I had to do with Windows Mobile. I've used close to a dozen Windows Mobile devices over the last year, and it's still a bitch.
If you haven't noticed in our reviews of Windows Mobile phones, we've basically ceased comparing to them anything but other WM phones, in a wishful attempt at dulling our totally appropriate disdain for the OS, lest the review essentially turn into one giant bitchfest. They're clearly off in their own world of performance and function.
Even ceding the point that Windows Mobile is somehow more functional than the iPhone or Android, it's like comparing one of those 100-in-1 kitchen gadgets that'll blend, slice, dice, toast, saute, braise, set the table, clean the dishes AND suck you off while it's doing all that to a Waring MX1000 blender. It doesn't matter how much the all-in-one gadget can technically do if you can't figure out how to use it, and it performs every task with only mediocre results.
If the iPhone ran half as poorly as Windows Mobile phones, Apple haters would (rightfully) scream as loudly as Apple fanboys do about Vista. If any BlackBerry was as much of a flustercuck, reviewers would trash the crap out of it. I'm sorry, but at this point, any apologist left defending Windows Mobile is either delusional or full of crap—either way, not worth listening to.
I won't touch another Windows Mobile phone until WM7 or at least 6.5, no matter how awesome the hardware looks. Call me when it runs Android.
Hope that helps anyone still on the fence about this phone. Knowing what I now know, I would have waited for the N97.

Sorry about all of the negativity everyone, or if I sound like a total Debby Downer. There are some good features I really like about this phone (for instance the threaded messages, the camera touch focus feature, and the task app), however the bad (mostly WM) IMO severely outweighs and negates any of the good I feel when using the phone. I hope SE plans on updating the Media Experience Panel in the immediate future. Is there even a way to update the panels btw? Whatever the case, rant over.
