Reputable right? Toronto ... I live in Toronto and I can sure promise you No True reputable store that offers sell phones will promise you that its going to be available BEFORE the w810i debuts.
BTW the site doesnt exist
1.) Thanks to masseur for editing/fixing my link.
2.) I never said that EITHER store/vendor definitively had/will have the p990. I just brought to light that two Toronto area vendors seem to both be receiving the phone around the same time. I also wanted to mention that the first vendor (Tsam Communications) has a very reliable track record (I mentioned this in an earlier post) on HowardForums and their feedback is excellent. They are not likely to pull some sort of scam. However, I can not and will not verify that they will 100% get the phone in the next week. The second vendor (SN Traders) doesn't have as much online feedback to review, but they are a real company, they do exist and I've known people who have bought stuff from them without problems.
Neither of these two vendors are obvious scams like mobileworld. However, I have never stated that their claims of having p990s in the next week are 100% valid.
3.) I know that a lot of very informed sources (like masseur) have mentioned later release dates but like I said earlier - we shall find out if the two vendors are telling the truth in a few days. In fact, I will probably head over the SN Traders (time permitting) myself to verify it.
As well, I'm not sure why you are so adamant that the p990 won't be available before the w810.
NOTE: Just as I finish making this post, someone posts a negative feedback on the second vendor SN Traders on howardforums.com. It seems that "SN Traders" will take a pre-order but then keep saying "it's coming next week. the week after. the week after".

Thats isnt true .... Quote:On 2006-01-18 13:21 , W_I_P wrote: Well, it's only a few days until the reputable/reliable Howard Forums marketplace vendor gets their p990s in (according to their post). Sure you said according to "Their" post, yet you further state Quote:On 2006-01-18 13:21: They seem reputable, I gave them a call and the p990 is coming in at the end of this week. If I have time, I will visit their store to see the phone in person - early next week. Now I'm not sure if English is your native language or not (not trying to insult you at all) but when you state that YOU gave them a call and it IS coming at the end of this week, then it means that YOU'RE staking a claim that they WILL be getting the phones in by the end of THIS week. For you saying that they SEEM to both get them in after you make your statement - as opposed to an estimation/assumption/guess - that they are, or even you saying that you'll go in to see them in person (remember one store isnt a brick & motor) doesnt excuse your earlier statement, which can be mistaken in either your point of view or mine.
All I'm stating is that your post stating that you called them and that one of the resellers is getting them in will be missleading.
Reasons for why the P990i FULL-production model will not be avialable for resale before the w810??:
1) the Symbian OS is more finicky than the w810/k750/w800 based OS. Common sense means that if SE is gonna launch this in the 1st Qtr of 2006 one must realize that its a new OS, white papers are out on programing for API's of various kinds, and that the new OS shouldnt have a firmware update just 3 weeks after official launch for distribution/sales. Officially SE has only announced just 1 replacement Symbian OS device outside of Japan wireless company's. If they screwup the OS then 3rd party programmers cannot get their apps properly running for it = which will lead to the devices demise. SE as we all know are quality control freaks in the wireless phone manufacturing industry.
2) The removable flip keypad is redesigned from last iterations, and as such the new OS must compensate. New 2MP camera and functions must be their. Also for Wireless 802.11b is something completely new for Symbian OS; no device has ever had it that I can recall & sorry Nokia's S80 devices are a completely different bread & implementation non compatible API's.
3) completely new production line for a 1 of a kind device, where as the w810 is based off of nearly the same platform, sure the EDGE/Quadband chipsets are different but they seem to already have very nice running prototypes in such a short time of announcement compared to the P990i.
Lastly I seriously hope that SE can prove me wrong & that those stores and YOU can prove my belief in a working prototype thats closer to production than what Bengalboy has is a fact.
But seeing how you have roughly 24hrs to show us any of these stores have at least one ... and 1 with bad feedback isnt looking in your favor.
Remember I'm stating that p990i may have leaked some prototypes - that are earmarked NOT FOR RESALE - but I'm guestimating that we wont see production 1 offs before the 1st week of March 06 and then pure production models after March Break. BTW I dont want SE to rush the P990!

What happened with the howardforums trusted seller that supposed to have the P990 available today?
Any news on that?

I don't think the Howard Forums seller is supposed to have them until tomorrow (January 20). I am also waiting to find out what happens with them.

I hope no one on this board isn't fool enough to pay anyone for a P990 now without seeing the device first. The HoFo advert contains P990 spec links to a website owned by a person that I have personally met. All forms of payments appear to be in a manner that could easily be made untraceable. I'm sure it's not difficult for anyone to take a deposit on a pre-order for something they don't have.
The bottom line is that the owner of the post has no personal ties to these references. I'd think that anyone that has access to several units would at least have access to exclusive pics or information. I believe my earlier post about this unit being released in March is probably still the most likely scenario. If it's going to be released any sooner, a lot more vendors would be prevy to that information.

I don't plan to buy from the Howard Forums advertiser, even if he ends up having the phones. I am just curious to see what happens. In fact, I am just curious to hear any news related to this phone. If it doesn't come out until March or April, I will have been waiting for the P990 for a whole year! That's pretty ridiculous. Hopefully SE will surprise us and release it sooner than later...
