@boris, please don't believe that crashing is a daily occurance of WM or X1. It simply isn't true, and if your phone is experiencing this don't let it colour your perception of X1 or WM. Perhaps it was put on ebay BECAUSE someone else got stuck with your lemon and passed it on to you. Those are the risks of buying on ebay.
You may be jumping to the conclusion that the crashing is due to it being WM because of the myth sprouted by many non-wm users about WM being crashworthy - but the fact is that ever since PPC2003 or so, and especially WM5, the windows mobile platforms have been quite stable. It's only those with no real world experience of WM who keep spreading this myth around (you get it a lot from s60 users with secret envy of touchscreens
....)
btw, have you done a firmware reset? this might help with your handset.
Regarding the contacts, you can actually do all that via the ok button and dpad, it's really only in third party applications you should need resort to stylus use. It's just a matter of getting to know the OS. You are gonna need to do this anytime you start using a new phone os. WM IS more complicated and takes more time to get to know it's idiosyncracies, however it's far more functional than you give it credit for.
If it's too complicated and you don't like it fair enough, but be careful you don't let your inexperience colour you perception of a device you may actualy end up liking a lot if you give it a chance to become familiar with it.
The seller who sold me my phone is great, he has a online store that sells nothing but new unlocked phones. I've bought with him before, so I have no reason to think that he would have intentionally sold me a lemon, if a lemon at all. I'm pretty familiar with the X1 now after close to 2 weeks of use, and honestly still don't like it. My battery hardly last a day, and I don't use it much differently than I did my N95 (actually I use it less since I haven't been able to use any of the software that I used on my N95). I guess what I'm most caught off guard by is the abysmal battery life. Every where I read everybody said it was great and would last a day easily. I've yet to get a full days worth of use from it where I don't have to plug it in to make it through a day. I had no idea that WM was THIS power hungry btw. What do you do with your phone through out the day? Does it last you a full day? I did a firmware reset a couple of days after purchasing it because of the freezes and lock-ups, and thought it had something to do with the software I had downloaded like I've mentioned countless times.... It still locked up several times after that with nothing installed while just navigating from one panel to another..... Like I said, it only does it if I leave it on and running for an extended mount of time, like over a day, with out turning it off or soft reseting it. I personally have big fingers and can NOT navigate the phone with one hand. I can not move up and down on the contact list using the alphabetical list on the side of the screen (I hate on screen keyboards btw). This phone requires two handed operation to fully operate, or a stylus if you dive deeper than the exterior candy coating. For instance, I often have a hard time opening the task panel (you know to multitask and what not) when in the Media Experience Panel and using only one hand. I also have a hard time opening the connection manager (if I mange to hit a active connection in the task bar at the top the first time) with in the dialogue bubble that opens so I can activate my bluetooth connection. I often have to use both hands, or the stylus to do these things. While you can get around using just one panel, I kind of bought this phone to use the Media Experience Panel too, and use it often even though it's broken.
@ Malkmus, after your post yesterday I decided to try WMP with my car deck, and the AVCRP controls do work like others have reported, however it kept screwing up! After a while some songs would unexpectedly start playing a loud screeching static! It didn't happen all of the time while using it with my car deck, however it happened enough that it became annoying enough to me to make close WMP and disconnect my X1 from my car deck during my 45 minute commute to Pasadena.
Also, I hadn't noticed it until someone said it, but my phone has slowed down considerably switching task and opening windows since first using it. This however is to be expected with WM as you add apps, this much I knew and read about extensively while doing research on the phone before purchasing it.

It's the bootloader.
You can check it by pressing the volume down button and powering your X1 on while keeping it pressed.

So your SPL & ROM is ok (same as mine).
I asked because I was suspecting a custom SPL + ROM, as one or both of these can often be the reason(s) for freezes.
Now you have to soft reset your device or remove & reinsert the battery

Using wifi or gprs suck s juice just like on any phone. gprs or wifi uses as much juice as talking so if you are using a combination of all three then you will only get standard talk time of 10 hours (less if using talk and wifi or gprs concurrently) (x1 talktime is 10hours).
Infact I think wifi and gprs actually use a fair bit more juice than talk, so I'd say you wouldn't get much better than 5-6hrs of internet on the handset (maybe less), and that's assuming you only make a few short calls duing the day.
If you talk for a couple of hours, make that even less internet time.
How much time exactly do you use of talk/wifi/gprs during the day? I'm not talking X1 specifically, but this is just my general experience of any handset (regardless of whether it's WM or any other OS)
wifi and gprs sucks juice - this is normal. Other people on this thread have stated similiar experience as I have stated above, for x1. I don't think you can expect miracles. You won't be able to use the internet all day. This is true of any phone. You'll have to recharge at some stage during the day.
On the other hand, if you only use a couple of hours internet and a hour or so of total talktime during the day, you should get through the day no worries.
The fact that your phone is locking up when not used for a period of time IS NOT NORMAL. For WM OR for X1. Fair enough your ebay guy may be legit, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility that he unknowingly provided you with a dodgy handset.
If the handsets are new and unlcocked when he gets them, that means he ought to be prepared to provide you a new handset, since he can have that one replaced under warranty. Read through some of the other comments and replies to your posts: other people aren't complaining about the extent of instability and battery life that you are experiencing. Many people have replied that they don't have battery life problems and that the phone is rock solid.

Hey guys and girls,
I finally decided to pick the x1, in black...I tried it out in a store and fell in love with that. Great size and keyboard. I was going to get the touch hd first but then I just got sick of just a touchscreen (currently a touch owner) I need some buttons to press and I dont want to look at the screen the whole time to see where I'm pressing... It's just driving me crazy
Next week I'll order it...it got A LOT cheaper in the last 6 days!
Now I'm really looking forward to it. I, myself LOVe wm. THis os is not for everybody but I just like to tweak my stuff and try different things out. Many people expect the same experience as with an iphone. Turn it on and dont think about anything, for that you also cant do that much on it as on wm.
Anyways, cant wait to order it!

I think it does if you're using an industry standard like Final Cut Pro...

Actual industry standards don't rely on a specific OEM. For example PDF became an industry standard and ADOBE was pressured into opening the licensing of PDF so that they couldn't monopolise the "industry standard" and control it for their own needs.
No one product is an industry standard of itself. Competition will always ensure their are other products that do the job as well, or atleast well enough that a person's creativity can shine on whatever platform they choose to use.
If you think Final Cut Pro is so good that a person can not achieve industry leading results on a Windows video editing package then you are underselling the importance of the human creativity. Final Cut Pro cannot make a person creative - creativity can not be manufactured
