I've had nothing but good experience with the X10 so far (5 months). Everything works smoothly; I have almost all the apps I need; and there's no shortage of bells and whistles. Good product, as far as I'm concerned.

I would like Android 2.x, however, because there are some things 1.6 just can't do. For me, the biggest is that I cannot sync my calendar directly with iCal on my Macs. There's third-party software for that, but it only works with Android 2.x.
And there are a bunch of other Android apps that require 2.x -- PDANET, for example, can only work via USB with 1.6; 2.x is required for bluetooth.

So there are good, substantive reasons for people to be impatient about the 2.1 roll-out. And I suspect that many X10 users -- like myself -- would gladly trade Timescape, Mediascape, and the other proprietary SE programs for 2.2.

Just sayin'

There are many of us on this board that remember what it was like a couple of years ago when SE was renowned for releasing very buggy software on their phones - there used to be thread after thread of issues and complains about restarts and crashes, remember the K850i?

The X10 software is actually quite stable considering it's their first heavily customised Android phone - not counting a few minor bugs,.

So taking that into account they're only admitting to us that the next update doesn't meet a quality standard that they're happy with and this will take a bit more time to refine.

They've missed their own deadline for releasing it, which has certainly done them no favours, but in their eyes it's not ready for us and they're not releasing it until it is.

I can live with that.

Thats so true G-face, and i should remember, i was a K850 user, and MY GOODNESS what a DISASTER that thing was, it never was finished, had incredible battery life though, but what a P.O.S. The X10 has been the exact opposite, main X10 complaints have been about the OS version, and then low call volume, other than that havent read of any other major issues. Its so reliable, and battery has improved so much, i woke up the other day at 10am to find that there had been a power outage since 7am, so for 3hours my X10 was left not charging. It was polling email every 30mins (this is just before i discovered K9 Mail and Shangmail), it was polling the BBC News apps every 30mins, updating weather every 2hours and downloaded the daily news from my network sent via MMS. Got up and found it had 89% batt, sent a bunch of texts, web browsed for an hour, made a 2min call, went to uni where it carried on polling the above apps, when i checked at around 3:30pm it still had 70%, wasnt worried, left uni at 5pm, got home at around 5:45pm and still had 58% ,made a couple of calls, sent a text and then browsed for around 3hours, listened to music for like 1hour while browsing, and at around 11pm it hit 20%. I was VERY impressed, it realy gave my confiedence in its battery a huge boost.

As I've mentioned long time ago, with X10, I don't feel that I need an update... but if there is one, I'm happy to have it. Especially the OS version that can increase the number of apps you can have for the phone.

the update is more towards enhance the experience rather than fixing the bugs...because the phone is far from buggy. If the phone is buggy, then yes...the late update will sure piss off a lot of people.

I'm happy with the battery life as well.... since last update, I've never switch off bluetooth, GPS, wifi, 3G. All these functions are always ON. My email is being pushed heavily as I use it for my office mail and personal mail, browsing, facebooking, weather update every 4 hours, texting and phone call.... With all of these, I can use my phone 20-24 hrs. I'm very happy since I don't like to switch off any of its function especially the 4 big things (bluetooth, wifi, GPS and 3G).

It's not a race and this doesn't ruin my day but in practice, between now and Oct wheneverth, there will be another 4 or 5 apps I want that I can't download cos my OS is too old. The target group SE have for this phone demands that experience, there are a bunch of other phones in the SE portfolio for those that don't care.

Delayed 2.1 upgrade when 2.2 is on the cards is a massive schoolboy error, will put many off including myself on going with SE again.. the x10 is already well behind.. as it was when it was launched.

You'd have thought with the iPhone 4 including HD they'd have brought 2.1 forward to compete..

Awesome phone but needs to be with the leaders..

fail.
