"SE, make an iPhone competitor NOW!", right?

Why all vendor should make iPhone competitor?
Is iPhone already a giant or monster?
There's a thread here in esato discussed about Nokia to make iPhone competitor.
Now should follow the same thing.
Why don't we just call something like super phone or super smartphone and has nothing to do with iPhone?
iPhone for me is not that great.
I hate iPhone.

Basically one can say that the P5 surely will be a great phone! The problem is more that the hype that was created here made one believe something new was on the horizon. Again Sony/// stepping ahead of its peers and again having the edge over them. That at least is why I became a Sony/// Fanboy, now man from almost day 1. Now it seems to turn out that the P5 is more or less a phone that just about manages to catch up with the N95 series. Which by all means is a great effort as these are great phones. but it is apparently not "the storm", the all in one super-duper gadget. Hence the growing dissappointment. Great expectation are always hard to meet and in this case i cant see them being met!

I agree. People wanted better than the N95, but I just don't see that as being an easy task. N95 is an all in one. Even Nokia have shown its hard to improve on with the N96! SE catching up is great, but I think that's as far as any company has the technology to go at the moment.

II find it quite odd that 50% of the people on here think that the phone should be super thin, better than an N95 and have an interface better than or matching the iPhone's, otherwise its a dud. Well, sure that'd be nice, but so far no manufacturer has matched the iPhone for UI, and I don't expect anyone to for some time. The iPhone obviously took a lot of development and it will take some time for other manufacturers to catch up. I'd rather see them develop useful things though. In regard to BEATING the N95, well thats a high benchmark to set and we know so far that it pretty much matches it. 5MP, LED flash, HSDPA, QVGA or better screen, GPS, touch screen, WiFi, etc. So far we are pretty sure that Paris has all that. Apparently its pretty thin too, and it looks a hell of a lot better than the (ugly in my opinion) N95! I don't think we can expect much more in a handset from SE yet, especially considering we've seen nothing really close to it so far.

Yeah, but when we're talking about rumors regarding a next-gen flagship (or near-flagship) device, realistic expectations go out the window! If it's not the best thing on the market, then it's a "dud," plain and simple.

N95 is the standard phone fans hold everything to in terms of specs and features. iPhone is the standard folks hold everything to in terms of cool factor, UI, and eye-catching appeal. So *anything* coming out at the high-end will be compared to those two devices right now - it's just how it is.

I know this is an SE fan board and I'm a huge SE fan, but it's not enough to say "It's the best SE ever, even if it's still playing catch up to [phone X]." N95 is an ugly brick but it's an amazingly functional device. iPhone is underfeatured but it's gorgeous and super fun and easy to use.

P5 must somehow trump them both (either on both accounts or with a strong mix of what the others are lacking) in order to really push SE to the top.

Dear Sir, please quote the full text next time. It was meant to be *sarcasm*, you know... - no company on Earth is by any means *forced* to make an iPhone competitor.
It's just their decision whether to fight for the market share iPhone has (and it DOES have one) or not!

And yes, I myself am looking forward to a more *fun* device than X1 and Paris. What was that I heard about Maria?

n96 + iPhone + m600-style QWERTY + SE style = FTW!

That is the exact equation. Maybe ad an E61i or Blackberry for the keyboard.
