> Who's going to get it ? P990

Based on what I know currently then I'd have to say "not sure". But given it's going to be six months before we can buy one then there's hardly a rush to make a decision.
I've had the p800 since the day it came out (in the UK) and I've found nothing has tempted me to upgrade. What I really want is p800 functionality (with 3G) in a smaller form factor - not the same form factor packed with more features.

Bit more info from SE people at the smart phone show.
Due for release late Q1 '06, hinted that it would be on Orange first.
This is their flagship until '07. Any rumors of P1000 etc are not true.
The processor is only slightly more powerful then that of the P910, but other changes make it more effective. Another guy said they cannot release info about the processor till later this year.
It has been designed specifically not to work with P910 applications due to the virus issues as seen on the 90 series nokias, although it will ship with anti virus software. Apps developers can redesign and submit for certification their apps but some things will need changing.
5 way jog-dial replaced by 3 way due to space issues, takes up too much space for the back and forward movement.
Is it worth getting? Hell yeah!

Not sold on this one yet.
While the new and upgraded specifications are generally great, I still find a number of backward steps:
Removing 2 of the jog-dial directions will mean that one-handed operation probably won't be as easy;
The markings on the pre-assigned buttons indicate that they are not intended to be reassignable;
Shorter screen means that 16:9 movies will be smaller than on P9XX screen. While viewing movies is far from my main use of my P900, it's still a disappointment; and
I also love the clean look of the flipless P9XX and have no problems with the handwriting recognition, so I would, at this stage, prefer not to have the qwerty keyboard on the front of the phone. Perhaps when I try one I'll find that the keyboard is way better than handwriting, but the keyboard is not positioned under the screen in landscape mode, so that it would more resemble a computer screen/keyboard layout. If SE wanted a larger and more substantial feeling keyboard than on the P910, then I think they should have developed something along the lines of a K-Jam-style sliding screen/keyboard. They would probably have to figure out something for a more phone-like interface with hard number keys for those who like the flip-on P-series and one-handed SMS, but that's what they're in business to figure out.

I'll be getting one as 3G data is very handy. For those who prefer the JasJar all I can say is that it is not perfect. You just have to see the complaints at the Clubimate web site. I have one and it looks like its really a first generation i-mate communicator.

surely that larger button top centre on the flip keypad is 5 way? up, down, left, right and push?? just like and XDA, jam etc. i dont think a jog wheel missing from the side is a biggy. especially as that is how i used to remove phones from my pocket. when i first got a p series phone ( had them all upto now ) i used to click the wheel in getting it out of my pocket and depending on where the dial had rotated to , depended on whether it answered, muted or sent busy before i even saw the screen... now i realise that for flip OFF users this may be an issue, but i use the flip .

I willbe sticking with my 9500 communicator till further notice. I was hoping SE would consider a proper QWERTY keyboard for a change. That's very important to me in a handheld device.

I might get the P990i depending on how soon in comes to the stores, and how it is priced. By Q1 next year, the P990's spec may be slightly dated already as others may catch up by then. I'm positive that most phones will have 2MP cameras by then, and probably many smartphones will have wi-fi too. Time will tell.
