Not really sure why your hard disk doesn't seem to be deleting files. I've had it happen very rarely with a single locked file, but not gigabytes-worth of files and frequently like you. Very odd!
Try this free program:
MainMenu, which has a bunch of system maintenance functions accessible from a little menu. One of them is a "Force Empty Trash..." which can help delete stuck files.
Without paying any money, Silverkeeper is your best bet. A friend of mine bought Intego's
Personal Backup and say's its pretty good. I've never tried it though...
I must admit I rarely back-up my computer. I manually backup my iTunes and iPhoto libraries occasionally, and backup all the application installers to CD/DVD. But I never back-up my system. If something were to happen, I'd just start again from scratch!

I may end up buying the backup software, I recently learnt it pays to keep recent backups - (I lost all my work on my data stick when it corrupted its self, and had no recent back up)
I really don't know whats up with the hd, its only on my external memory, basically if I delete something off it, it just stas on there, but its all hidden, the problem I have is I have 350gb hd, split up into 3 partitions - 15 - 65 - 150 gb, now I use the 150gb secotor for film backup etc, but since Its not deleting things I have abour 30gb on this secotor that can't be used which is a real waste, but im going to try the progam you've recomended
What I am going to do is join 2 sectors (15 - 65 g ones ) so I can try to back up whats on the 150gb sector then do a format, which will erase all the unused data etc
Cheers for the help jools

Ok so i am stumped, i did manage to get my ipod working on my pc and had it all working fine and i went to update today to add a few more songs and when i ejected the ipod i found that out of 300 or so songs all with album art only a few shows the album art on the ipod when each songs has art in itunes. Wtf!!!
I have the display album art checked so i have no idea why it is showing up in itunes but only a few are displayed on the ipod.

Clicking update when ipod is connected makes absolutely no difference even though all album art is on itunes in the library when i click each song only a few are displayed on the ipod when it is ejected.

No worries i was thinking of moving the itunes music folder to the desktop and then swiping itunes clean and then copy and paste the itunes music folder again, do you think that would work.
This is arse, wouldnt happen on a mac he he! Have tried bloody loads of things, not to mention msn has cocked itself up, if you wondering were i disappeared.

your right it wouldnt have would it, but I have a new idea.... format your ipod, and let it update 100% again, in fact go to apple download the latest firmware patch, run it then you should have a option to reset ipod to factory settings, that wya you dont have to faff around with windows as much

Cheers i will try that now then? It was fine before, i think beforehand i will actually put the album art within the artist/album folders within the itunes music folder rather than just having a tag. Maybe that will help.
