I sincerely hope that site's got it right on that specs list, ants.
If all the other pre-release info omitted the auto-focus feature for no apparent reason, then this doesn't say too much for anyone in SE's marketing department, as regards ensuring that all the initial info is both included and correct...

How can W700 get fewer and cheaper components compared to W800 when they basically have the same specs, unless they use components of poorer quality in W700?
Let me illustrate with an example. Ericsson Mobile Plattform has a product called U100, which is the plattform used by e.g. SE in their 3G products. To summer they will release U300. U300 is smaller and cheaper although it has more features than U100. What required 7 ASICs in U100 now only requires 4 ASICs in U300. That makes big difference in manufacturing cost. Even exchanging old and obsolete components by new one can reduce the cost as well. Having same or similar spec does not mean they have to be built exactly same way.
That's called technolygy progress (things become smaller and cheaper).

No it does not. MR and Rog at mobile-review have hold W700 in there hands and have confirmed, no AF.

IMO it will be exactly the same phone as the w800i. Reduced price comes from less capacity MSDP and probably a reduction of their profit margin. It would be nonsense to keep both w800i and w810i in the market simultaneously, so simply change the name to w700i and place this model just between the w550i and the w810i in their range. Just a marketing strategy.

the w700 wont be the same as w800 cuz w700 lacks autofocus so the camera wont be as good. i think that SE did enough market research to introduce this phone. its for those people that wants more cuz the w550/600 is very limited in functions but the w800 is too expensive for some other people. so i think w700 will be great for them. the price range wont be so bad so alot more middle class people can afford it especially in those asia countries where they dont earn alot.

It would be very interesting to see just how much of a price difference there will be between the W800 and the W700 by the time the latter becomes widely available...

@marktang:
Although the specifications in the SE web it is still unclear whether w700 has autofocus or not. See the link provided by ants:
http://www.imobile.com.au/Future/default.asp?ID=futureapr0601
In any case it is probably more expensive to change the specifications of the w800 to make a nearly identical phone than to keep the same model with a name and fascia change. Time will tell...
edit ---> It seems clear now that w700i lacks autofocus. I was wrong

i think u can trust the se website..if u compare the w700 to the w800 specs then u'll see the w700 doesnt have autofocus and whereas the w800 page it mentions autofocus

I certainly trust mobilereview over imobile - if mobilereview say they have handled the phone and it doesn't have autofocus, then I believe 'em.
It makes sense. K is the imaging series, W is the walkman series. SE have made a clear distinction between the K and W series by firstly bringing out the K800/790 without a "W" version, and now by "re-releasing" the W800 as the W700 with dumbed down camera.
I still don't understand people's anguish over this phone. If you don't like it don't buy it. Personally I find the K750 more than suitable for listening to music (even though the music player is less useful - it's still more than adequate at playing music), but for those wanting a Walkman branded mobile there is the W810, or the W900 (in camera phones).
Those upset with the W700's lack of autofocus, buy a K750

Those upset with no longer having an "exclusive" phone, get a life! Sheesh. Exclusive mobile phones never stay that way for long no matter what you buy.
Want an exclusive phone? Here's an idea, paint your existing shell. Choose a colour you've never seen on a mobile. Nothing better than DIY. If you do it will be truly exclusive then - no one else will have one the same.

But according to this live pic, there's AF written on the bottom left of the camera ........so there's auto focus?
