Around one month. The K750 was released on 16th of May, the buggy R1J was released on 13th June and fixed R1L was released on the 30th June.

How quick new firmwares are released depends on how buggy the previous firmware was. SE have done an excellent job with the K800 in that R1CB is incredibly stable for a first firmware - unlike, for example, R1A044 on the K750, which was prone to fairly frequent crashes.

Note that it was almost 3 months after the stable R1L came out on the K750 that R1N was released.

One thing I would like to mention, is the sluggish sms"performance"..
I don't use t9, I just use multitap with the "joystick-down" trick for writing sms quickly. However, this phone just doesn't work using that technique. My old k750 had no problems what-so-ever. Example:

"I was up all night long" looks like this: "I was up alk nhgth kong". Multitapping is just too laggy. I notice the letter-selector in the top-right window hangs a little every now and then aswell, usually 4-5 times everytime I write a message.
To me, this seems like something which can be optimized by software. The buttons on the phone are good to use, although a little small.

Yes, I've doublechecked that my "technique" is in working order. ;)

@ spcdust

If you want to check for updates for your Voda K800i just attach the supplied USB cable and use the Sony Ericsson Update Service.

Cheers

looks like davinci team have K800i support now.

However on their website they claim to have supported K800i since 13 July, which they clearly hadn't last week. Anyone want to give this a go and see if there are any differences with flashing on wotanserver?

Although I don't use such antiquated methods of writing text messages myself ( ) I too have sound typing SMSes to be less reliable than on the K750 and earler phones. It does seem that the phone can't keep up with the user if they type too quickly.

I've got a Voda K800i and have found no lag at all when typing SMS'es compared to my K750i. I've tried to type as quick as I can and no lag, it also tries to predict the next word sometimes as well.

I know Voda personalise their firmware to death but I've always found I don't encounter many of the issues experienced by other people. E.g The background hissing on K750i etc I never experienced, also battery life poor on some releases never happened to me. It was always released a month or so after the "Normal" release via SEUS so perhaps they do more thorough testing???

@chrisnewman

I think the better performance of branded version can also be explained with the fact that has managed to create some sort of customizable areas (think about the fact that new themes also can change menu icons). This makes it possible for operators to customize in a less invasive way the looks of software, maintaining the stability of it.

I had an Orange branded K800 (up to half an hour ago ) and noticed that only small portions of the FW were actually branded. The main features were not.

So I suppose operators and manufacturers are reaching a good middle point.

I still like the original design (both graphically as well as usability-wise) far better...

Cheers

Hmm, SE doesn't learn much from the long K700, K750/W800 history of bugs..I had better wait several months to go to get K800..

thing is... its easy to make generalisations like that but if you wait months... you are losing months of perfectly good (actually great) usage of the K800
