My essay is about the - hyphen.
Not many people use the hyphen as it can easily be replaced by the comma. The most common use of the hyphen is in the use of lists or when starting a list such as
: - , although I have never seen it used like

The origin of the word hyphen is actually not known by me either. I can only imagine that it looks like a snake suspended in mid-air and so was called Hyphen because it looked like a High-Python.
As this has been unsubstantiated it really is anyones guess.
Hyphen, Python - stick it up ya syphon.
I would like the next person to tell us about the dangers of picking ones nose bogies.
