On the Vodafone release there are about 8 games but they are all demos so are a waste of time.

i got my w850 yesterdAY, and i was so excited!... i got instruction on the saleslady to drain the battery first and charge it fot 4 hours because its brand new, after charging the phone for 4 hours i turned it on and the screen only blinks for several times at least 10 mins before going on phone mode, i went to the store where i bought the unit and i want a replacement but unfortunately they dont have any on stock...

tech support said its a software bug, i havent decided yet to upgrade the version. will it be safe if i upgrade the phone online? how?

No official software update is available from Sony Ericsson yet (R1ED001 is the only software version they have released for the W850i) but there are third party sites which have a newer version available.

The newest version available on the third party sites is currently R1EG001. It is an official Sony Ericsson firmware but it has not been released to the general public as it is being rolled out to service centers etc and is likely to contain very few modifications. Upgrading to this firmware may fix the problems with your phone but it also invalidates your warranty (Not that the service centers etc have noticed in the past with any i have done).

You have three options:

1. Send the phone back to be repaired / replaced

or

2. Live with the slow startup until Sony Ericsson release an official update via the Sony Ericsson Update Service Program (You will need to keep checking the first post in this thread to find out when its released)

or

3. Update using a third party site like Wotan Server (Costs 7 Euros) or Davinci Team (Costs 10 Euros). NOTE: As i mentioned using these services may invalidate your warranty so using them is at your own risk. I have never had any warranty problems when using them but it is possible.

Hope that helps,

RA.

all of the problems you people have such as: low ear peice volume , slow ui responsiveness.

these dont happen , there 5 times as fast as my k750i and my dads w810i , also the volume is very loud !

i have R1ED001 i have the latest software whenever i try update over air or through seus !

Hey Guys...

Sorry about not being active on here for a while; I have just been in the middle of a major move and lifestyle change...

As regards to the W850i, I haven't had a chance to try out the newest firmware on Wotan, but I'll try and get that done and analysed for y'all soon.

I have updated the first post with the Vodafone CDA, but I still need the O2 and 3 CDA, so if anyone can get that to me, that would be cool!

Just using the phone, there are few things that I would like to see in a new firmware:

- an option to end calls by closing the slide;
- louder earpiece volume;
- refining the Walkman interface (lots of stuff; mainly a more logical layout for the software)
- slider sounds!

Enough of me... more about your wants!

Check my post on the 1st page (third from last) it has the O2 UK CDA at the bottom.

In relation to the shorcuts not being saved, here is what you do:

After you have chosen which shortcut you want on a certain keypress, exit back to the main screen and switch the mobile off (do not do anything else) and then switch the mobile back on. Then hey Presto, your shortcut will have been saved.
