Hi all,

Actually just looking at the Tariffs again they really are not as bad as they first seem as if they include unlimited Data & fair usage is actually approx 1GB approx and also includes free unlimited WiFi usage at certain Hot spots that does bring the monthly charges break down to be quite reasonable IMO.

Obviously having your push E-mails over EDGE is not going to be quite so painful re the download speed but and if used primarily for just E-Mails it is unlikely you will go over your allowance IMO. On the other hand IMO Web browsing really will have to be mainly used over WiFi or may be painfully slow especially if you are visiting data intensive sites.

Being retired and not very well i really don't get out that much so don't really know just how viable using Hot spots for free WiFi would be for most maybe others could comment on how they think this may work or not.

Marc

@Marc.. the edge speeds are really good on the iphone.. obviously not 3g fast... but it's pretty good when matched up with the iphone's safari browser.. over here on rogers.. i'm able to stream tons of content...

not sure how o2's edge is but ... it won't be "too" bad i think

Wifi is fine, if you are static and in the city. In london city there are loads in some areas and non in others! also this is no good if you are moving on a bus/taxi/walking as they have short ranges in between all that concrete.

BUT if your moving -
HSPDA gives me up to 1.8mbit/s (N95 P1i HTC TyTn II) up to 7.2in the future
and
EGPRS (edge) i believe is up to 236.8 kbit/s (iPhone) zzzz

^ This is why I think t-mobile HSDPA + iPhone would have been a match made in heaven.

Alas, it wasn't to be. EDGE now seems sufficient for it.

well theres no way i could go back to edge on a primary phone now, everything would take 5 times longer than i does now!

it would be going backwards for anyone thats been using 3.5G HSPDA...

@Dragon Eye

Didn't realise EDGE was 284 odd maybe it won't be so bad after all will need to see it in action to really tell. So once released will take my E61 which has 3G and compare it with the iPhone as both use the Safari based browser which IMO is easily the best browser on mobile devices and is also extremely fast, kills dead both Opera and PIE IMHO.

@batesie

Although HSDPA will reach 7.2mbps by the end of this year at the latest their are very few devices currently able to take advantage of it, in fact the only device i am aware of is the Toshiba G900 and that at the moment has it's own set of problems to deal with. There are quite a few that have 3.8mbps capabilities but the P1 isn't one of them as it doesn't have HSDPA unlike the K850 that will.

True, but the N95 is a Catagory 6 HSPDA device so supports up to 3.6Mbit/s and thats 15 times faster than the max iphone speed....
