I was annoyed by dust just piling up under the glass cover. At first I thought "easy come, easy go" but nooo.
I discovered that its just a glass circle that is sticked in the cover and its not hard to remove it. Thats what I did, removed it, cleaned (wooohhh... that was hard) and put back.
I don't reccommend you try to do that because I sure wont do that again.
When they were sticking it to the cover I wonder why didn't they seal it any better.

how did you remove it?

I wish to know that too. With something keen? Isn't dangerous?

With my fingernail. There is a small gap between the silver ring and the camera glass. Try to push your nail through, as you do it just pull the glass out, slowly because its a soft glue thats holding the glass.
Cleaning it is very hard. It attracts dust like a dust-magnet.
The worst scenario is that you touch the inner side of the glass with your finger. There is no way to completely remove the print. A smudge will stay.

i got dust...my k850 is 4 days old and i've got 5 specks SMACK in the middle of the lens.

local SE said they've never heard of this issue before...wtf??!!

It seems to be a genaral policy to say that they have nerver heard of a certain problem. Sure, in some cases the model is new and feédback hasn't reached SE yet. But i remember other issues that they just plainly denie to protect themselves. The dust issue got spread quickly so soon the should not be able to honestly say that they haven't heard of it.

yeah...i dunno what's more annoying...the dust under my camera lens or SE's blatant denial

after another 24 hours, i realised the dust bits have invited more buddies and they've shifted so there's definitely a gap SOMEWHERE...i'm gonna have to bring it to a service centre in person and demand they fix it i guess...sigh. but that opens another can of worms, they might open the phone up and invite more dust buddies...

Ok... got my new replacement K850 today and the build quality is far far better.

No creaking (its a noise for those that don't know ) loose screen, rear speaker is flat against the plastic (last one had gaps), battery/SIMM cover is a much tighter fit.

All in all it seems to be built better and has a more solid feel.

Finger crossed that dust monster will be kept out.

Same FW as initial release so still expect the bugs...

hey guys+gals. i haven't read all the 5pgs worth of complaints and resolutions but i have an idea...i currently have the se w850 and previous se phones. i plan on getting the k850 despite the unresolved issues (which probably could be fixed with a flash). as far as dust goes my suggestion is this. if anyone owns a pair of Oakley sunglasses you should have a microfiber sack that came with the pair (if not you could go to your nearest oakley store and ask for one). i've used that microfiber sack on numerous things including my phone and will HELP prevent dust from getting in the phone (esp if you keep it in your pocket/pocketbook) and will also help alleviate finger print problems (it cleans rather well). anyway this is just a suggestion.

just remember...this does NOT alleviate the dust problem completely but will aide your fight for a dust-free phone/cam

i previously had k800i -> bought a new k850i -> gave k800i to my wife -> used k850i myself -> got about 100 specks of dust under the lens glass cover -> gave back k850i to my wife -> using k800i from today.
K850i suks !!! menus are so slow, very buggy during calls, and after the dust issue, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone (untill the price drops to about $270)

after reading all this, checked my lens cover and yup, there it is dust, and lots of it, about 10 particles I can see, might be more though!

Doesn't seem to be affecting my photos though.

I purchased this from o2 online, does anyone know if I could swap it instore?

I have had my K850i 2 days now and no dust so far...

There is a gap around the camera lense that it could come through, if not maybe the speaker is where the dust is entering?...

@Ronaldeano

If you have purchased this online... you will need to do a return through them...

You can get them to send you a replacement and the driver can take the faulty one....

You need to make sure you are within your 28 days.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I am withing 28 days - only thing is, if this is a problem for my current handset then it will reoccur in the new one, just thinking if it is worth it or not??
