i don't think SDD's are pratical yet, £300 buys 128gb , £50 buys a 120gb sata 7200rpm 32mb cache drive, id rather have a ssd as there faster and last longer (no moving parts) but an extra £250 for 1 isn't worth it il stick to high end sata drives until the price of ssd's falls.

Indeed, the lack of moving parts should make SSD's last longer. Unfortunately, the wear and tear of the mem cells in a SSD is rather rapid, so that at the end the life time of a HD and of a SSD are almost identical

Looks like Windows have been sprucing up XP professional,
all my desktop icons have gone small and the taskbar,
plus theres a NVidia thing on the system point!
My Windows 7 machine needs a new Power supply darm it keeps switching of,
so imback to XP
darm this is so slow changing the pages

Maybe as SSD tec improves they will find a way to make the mem cells last longer, so for now the extra £250 you pay for a ssd only buys a bit more speed, i think the high-end sata drives with larger caches are fast enough for most people.

Well I think that's what is happening right now. Problem is that because of the longer lifetime, they now make cells with three bits per unit. And we are back again with the lifetime.

Is windows 7 worth it? I'm quite content with xp at least for now. Surely there's more to it than windows snapping by dragging them to the sides?

Yes, I would try it. Speed, if you have more than 2gb of ram in XP you wont see the difference, but if you take you 2gb RAM over into windows 7 thats when you will get the most out of it
