Anyone have an idea of what the hold up is? I have contacted SE e-shop on this issue and still no reply after several inquires. Is this a quality control issue or a design issue (ie./
cr@ppy manufacture issues or change in some major factor - like a better camera)? I have been waiting for this phone since its original expected release in September 2002. SE has only hurt itself from this poor management. I would have bought a T68i to carry me over but I expected the damn p800 any week. I am still stuck with a T39 which is in bad shape. I will never rely on SE again. If 2nd qtr of 2003 is indeed the date, then scr#w it, I'm buying a nokia.

To all of you phone lovers, I feel you. I've been trying to get this phone for my boss. One of you indicated we could get the P800 from Samstores.com. I looked there, then called them at 800-726-9493 to find out the P800 is being recalled. There are some problems with it. So apparently some were sold and then recalled-maybe because of WSJ's Mossberg's poor review of the stylus. Anybody know anything more?

Just talked with SE e-shop US (02-27-2003 @ 3:15 pm Pacific Time) and they said that per manufactures comments as of 02-26-2003 expacted release date is now last week in March or 1st week in April. He did not know if there was a recall. When pressed on cause of delay, he opinioned that probably because of unexpected consumer demand but was unsure. Contrived explanation at best but I don't fault him. I remember hearing that Sony decided not to use Ericsson manufacturers for this product because of high cost of production in Europe. If that was the case, high cost production is better than no production at all. If there was a recall, it would be nice to know why, specially for those expecting to buy from 3rd parties for units already out there. If the Nokia 3650 comes out beofre the P800, I know which way I am going.

I feel your guys’ pain.
I also waited *months* till the T68 was released here. It was quite frustrating to read all those great reviews from Asian and European tech writers, and then to visit the local shops and see nothing but crappy, old moto V60s and nokia 3360s, etc.
Then, they finally released the original T68. But at the same time, there were reports of the newer T68i coming. The sales guy told me there were no big differences between the two, except the “i” could use the communicam. So I bought the T68, but exchanged it for the T68i when I learned it had several additional features included like mms, my pictures and different games (which the salesman failed to mention).
The point is, once I had my shiny, new T68i, I began to read how all the European and Asian users were trying to figure out the best way to flash/upgrade their phones to the T68i software. Although I had to wait longer, I feel the extra time allowed SE and AT&T to fully test and debug the unit. As a result, I’ve never had the need to flash my phone, and it still works as perfectly as it did the day I got it.
I’m going to do the same with the P800. Yes, I want it desperately. But I will probably wait till a few weeks _after_ it is released here, maybe even wait till the second shipment, so that when I finally do get it, it will have the latest and greatest software, and it will probably never require an update. At that point, the phone will be fully mature and ready for the masses, just like my T68i!

If you can wait til svc providers carry P800s, then u might as well get a P900 cuz im sure theyll b out by then.
BTW: in order for it to have the latest and greatest software, updates will be required.
