does anybody who has some of the newer devices even have TRUE distortion problems? I get that there is some distortion but in general, i do not notice it in the vast majority of photos I take. It comes up here and there and yes, that is annoying. But overall, it has not been so prevalent that I don't even want to use my camera.

I don't have access to non-sony devices, or i would take sample shots of the same things to see how they compare. but honestly, in my everyday usage, i don't have any distortion problems that are glaring enough to make me angry.

just my 2 cents.

in any case, let's get this thread back to XZ1.

Yes, I own XZ1 for two week and the distortion is bad. I guess you already see what I have.

The thread is still with XZ1.

in every day use is ok.

But sometimes you need to take photos from the right angle and it sucks, so yes, in those case you are going to notice and see the stupid distortion.

@archdragoon - i see. that sucks if your distortion is consistently bad like that. i catch it now and then but everyday use it doesn't seem to pop up. even when i'm taking photos of things with grid like lines. sometimes the distortion is there, while sometimes it isn't.. or at least the severity of it varies greatly from barely noticeable to definitely noticeable.

hopefully it is something that can be fixed with software processing to some extent. If it truly is a wide angle lens problem, their algorithms should be able to determine the amount of distortion caused by the lens and correct it.

A second take on XZ1-
https://www.androidcentral.co[....]paign=navigation&utm_source=ac

Summary

Pros -
Great build quality
Unique design. Quote -"its "boring" design, its utilitarianism, happens to be one, too: phones are meant to be used, not admired."
Fingerprint scanner position and it's superfast performance
Camera button
Android 8.0
Very good battery life
Sony's best camera YET

Cons -
Overall Camera can't compete with the class leader especially low light performance is bad
Bazels problem ( Reviewer seems to agree that bazel on XZ1 is ugly but he doesn't seem to bother to much)

Overall it's a solid choice for people living in Canada.
