No camera samples that I've seen. I am very curious the reason they went with 12 MP sensors and didn't utilize the 48MP sensor that everyone else is using. Makes me wonder what these 12MP sensors are capable of, or if it was a sacrifice they had to make to be able to put in OIS and not make the device too thick
Exactly!!!! Nobody needed of OIS. Market and trend wanted it only. Sony used the biggest sensors always on their phone. And what we have now to follow the trend? 3 tiny ridicuolus sensors...But ohh yeahhhh we have the fXXking OIS. They will probably produce cleaner images, thanks to the larger photodiodes. But we lose details. Personally I prefer to have more noisy images, to clean up easily with photoshop and similar, but with much more details.
OIS was greatly needed... Have you ever tried other flagships? Whenever I use my wife's iPhone in low light the pictures always come out much less blurry or no blur at all because it has OIS. Same for my brother's Galaxy or one plus. But I struggle in the same situations with my xperia and no matter how still I try to be most of my shots end blured. I too prefer higher megapixels like16 or 19 and was expecting something like the 48mp sensor which even without OIS is as good as another flagships.

Come on guys...i have an xz2p...i still have the xzp and xz....and apart the normal xz...the other 2 are a step better than the other competitor. My brother-in-law has an iphone x. every time he looks at a picture on my phones he exclaims wow. In manual mode, we mean. And using the physical shutter button. Most users shoot in auto mode....

The overall ability of previous Xperia models is very good, but they require more effort than a Galaxy for example. For most people it is easier to take a good picture with an ois even if an equivalent Xperia would be just as good or better with some effort.
I have no doubt that the Xperia 1 will have the best Xperia camera to date. With better stabilization, better noise reduction it would also appeal to a wider audience.
I think that the Xperia 1 truly marks a new beginning for Xperia.
P.S. People complain about sensor size. As a matter of fact the pixels in the 1 are actually bigger than ever and that is what you should be considering.

Don't really get you on this one.

I believe they're stating that even though the sensors are smaller than the IMX400 used in past flagships each pixel is larger due to the lower megapixel count. This could allow for better low light capabilities

I see, I agree with that fact as well.

Here's a decent video from MWC showing off the eye auto focus, even in burst mode and a view using each of the 3 lenses:

Interesting to note at the end they ask why Sony went with Dolby Atmos when they have their reality audio tech. The answer is reality audio is more geared for music and Doby Atmos is more for cinema.
And another one also showing off eye AF and a bit of the cinema pro app

Found this article where Trustedreviews spoke with Adam Marsh, Sony's sensior manager of global marketing about this phone:
ng-alpha-style-cameras-3666962" target="_blank" rel="nofollow]https://www.trustedreviews.co[....]ng-alpha-style-cameras-3666962
Some highlights:
The Sony Xperia 1 also processes photos in the same way as Alpha cameras, according to March. “Normally when you take a picture, the phone will then compress it into a JPEG and then add the noise reduction. How Alpha does it is that it takes the Raw image, adds the algorithm to reduce the noise on the Raw image, then compresses it to JPEG, then you put noise reduction on top. That’s how Alpha is doing it. From Xperia 1, that’s how Xperia 1 will do it as well”, he said.
Also
There have also previously been issues with interdepartmental rivalry stifling collaboration, Marsh admitted. “Even though we’re one company, there are still sometimes barriers that Alpha doesn’t want to give Mobile certain things, because all of a sudden you have the same as what a £3,000 camera’s got.
“Now that barrier’s gone a little bit. They’re saying “okay, we see that having a smartphone and camera that gives you the same experience is a good thing”, he added.
Great news all around. Also discusses why they didn't go with the 48 megapixel sensor. Should be interesting to see how they continue down this path

“So from a noise reduction point of view, it’s going to be massively improved compared to even XZ2 Premium. That’s going to be a big step up”, he added.
there are big claims, i hope these are true.

I can't find any evidence about RAW image capture on the official page at all. What I can find is that Xperia 1 has RAW noise reduction.
