i was talking about the difference for a non-radio equipped mobile (such as is produced by nearly every other mobile manufacturer).
@Flying Finn:

have also had radio handsfrees for years in various guises (HPR-08, HPR-11, HPR-20). i believe HPR-08 was the first radio handsfree for a mobile, but i'm happy to be corrected on that
i reiterate: i'm not denying an inbuilt radio would be nice, but it isn't
essential. but then for me a mobile is a tool, not a toy. radio functionality can be achieved other ways, and with a better UI than having it built into the phone.
personally, i like the nokia 6230 (i have no need of a smartphone) and can imagine getting something similar as my next mobile because it's an "all in one" - but as it's the first of it's kind wrt expandable memory in a non-smartphone i'm happy to wait for the revised version six months later when the bugs are ironed out. at the moment i have a phone that meets my needs (including HPR-20

) and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
i
need bluetooth, triband and good screen. i don't
need a radio. speakerphone would be nice too, but i don't need that either
have to have vs. nice to have

You can keep convincing yourself.
It seems to me, that whatever SE doesnt happen to have on a phone (eg. radio), SE fans just say they dont 'need' it, or even that is 'sucks'!!
The brand loytalty never ceases to amaze me.
Sad really.
You even said that you could imagine yourself getting something 'similar' to the 6230.
You'll either HAVE to get a 6230, or wait a damn long time for another brand to bring out a phone with the same list of awesome features.

what brand loyalty?
i've only ever owned
one mobile. i admit that historically i've always liked ericsson products, but i also like some nokias. when it came to finally getting a phone i weighed up what was available against my needs and wants. it just so happened that a z600 best fulfilled my requirements this time. three words above all dictated my choice: fit for purpose.

i can imagine myself owning a 6230 because i can see my needs growing in future. but by then i might also need a P900. i don't have one because i don't need it.
in actual fact the 6230 was a looonnnnggg time coming. there's nothing new in the technology, but kudos to nokia for being the first company to
finally put it all together. it's biggest problem is that it's not available now, otherwise i probably would have bought it depending on price.
i don't give a stuff who makes the phone, as long as it's high quality and meets my needs. and i won't have to wait that long for someone to make a 6230 clone either. within 12 months mobiles with 6230 specs or better will become the default mid-high end phone. not to mention the inevitable 6230i to iron out the bugs (and don't tell me there won't be bugs, any first run model of anything always has bugs).

Good for you. But the users that the phone in question is targeted at, probably don't agree. You sound like a business user commenting on a flashy little fashion phone. As if somebody tried to make you replace your T610 or whatever with a 3200! Nonononono. Anyway. The 3200 has a loudspeaker and Wireless BT Audio Adapter (so you can use BT headsets with it) support in case somebody wants handsfree.

@ flying finn: i'm not denying that the 3200 is a neat package, i was just pointing out that lack of in-built radio in other mobiles isn't a deal breaker. i seriously doubt anyone actually needs a radio built into their handset, no matter how much they might like it. my main gripe with the 3200 is not it's feature set, but it's appearance (as i said on page one of this thread). hurny mentioned above the disadvantages of buying a plug-in radio unit for a phone. i'm sure much the same argument applies to a plug-in bluetooth adapter (which, btw, ericsson was the first to produce many moons ago). it's just a case of priorities for the user
@ hurny: ok. it just seemed to be aimed at me. i'm not a die-hard

fan. i am, however, a fan of getting myself the best deal.
