Unlocking and unbranding are different. Locking is to do with the phone being restricted to using a SIM for a particular network. Branding is to do with the CDA number. Unbranded phones have had the CDA number changed in the hope that the SE updater would allow a firmware upgrade but SE now seem to be using the IMEI number to identify network and SIM free phones. Trying to update the firmware on your Orange phone will not re-lock it to Orange. But I suspect you'll not be able to update the firmware as Orange have not approved the latest (or any?) firmware upgrades. I do have an Orange unlocked and unbranded phone and have not been able to use the latest firmware but on previous attempts, when the firmware was upgraded, the unlock was not affected.

well.. i tried it. it worked. it took forever.
my cda is still the same CDA162004/3
but my bluetooth works better.
Maybe i should email orange and ask them to approve a new version cos my t9 sucks....

I tried to install the software initially from winxp with SP1 but it didn't work. Therefore, i tried to make it using mS2000 with SP3 and finally was able to upgrade it to the latest version. followed all the instruction and the process completed flowlessly.

i have the same problem, it happened yesterday... no contacts, call history gone and some problems with themes and ring tones.
problem is that his didnt happen after i installed the new firmware update, just 2-3 days ago !
