Just having the firmware file won't help you much. You will require specialist hardware and software to flash the phone yourself.
If I were you i'd ring up SE and find your nearest SE Service Centre where they will perform the upgrade free of charge.

k700i ipaq 3870 modem incompatibility
Technical Details at Bottom.
In pocket pc 2002 bt manager, when i select the (already paired/bonded) k700 the bt program freezes while it is "retrieving services for this device". The bt program then crashes.
"Select as bluetooth modem" does not appear in the "actions" menu for the k700.
After prolonged interaction with hp "instant"-"support" the last word is that "there is an incompatibility between the bluetooth systems of the two devices".
HP's representative said that because it is an "old model" that he did not expect there would be a software revision to fix the problem.
Sony Ericsson's representative did not seem to be aware of the isuue and could find no similar isuues in the Sonyericsson system because itr's a new model. He did undertake to follow up through the company's system and to personally report it to his supervisor.
Has anyone figured out a way around this??
If not, I sugest that you lobby hp and Sony Ericsson until someone finds a fix. I guess the alternative is to buy a new pda or another new phone.
Technical Details;
iPaq 3870
Operating System;Pocket PC 2002
rom upgrade version; 2.20
bt manager version; 1.1

Hi. Regarding the bug in R2L - Pocket PCs can no longer connect to the internet via bluetooth. I had my K700 upgraded today at CPW in Guildford. All OK except I can't connect to GPRS on Orange from my iPaq 4150 using Bluetooth. My laptop seems to work fine. The solution (which seems to work so far) is to add an extra AT command string - 'Z' in the 'Extra dial-string modem commands' dialog on the Pocket PC. ATZ should reset the internal modem to it's default configuration, I assume similar to power cycling the unit. Just type 'z' or 'Z' into the dialogue, not the 'AT' part as the iPaq assumes this and will always prefix any extra strings with 'AT' before sending them to the phone. Would be interested to find out if this works for other users. Good luck.
could you please tell me how to use K700i ( R2L ) as amodem to PC via bluetooth thrugh GPRS tech.
I tried but it disconnected??????
with my phone T39m I connect without any problems:)
Please help me!!!
I add (( Z )) in the dialogue 'Extra dial-string modem commands' but still there is problem

dunno if anyones noticed this, but i just found a bug in r2a
When you have media player minimized doing its thang and the phone locks, if you recieve a txt it doesnt ask you to unlock the phone first and you can select yes to read, if you do the screen stays dim and not its normal brightness which makes things hard to see(not very hard but id rather have normal brightness) when youve sent your txt it goes back to as it was, i.e locked and media player resumes.... i love this phone its very capable, after having a nokia and working in the I.T industry id expect a phone to crash with putting it thru this but media player keeps on chugging along when no other sounds play! FANTASTIC!
