i think as smartphone becomes better, it is just hard to justify buying and carrying 2 devices.
the trend has started with smartphone eating into the low-to-mid end of pda (i.e. people who are not compulsive users of pda are already shifting). And it will slowly eat into the high-end.
maybe another way of looking at it is that pda is not dying. It is just evolving by adding on wireless functions.

For quite some time to come, there will be a strong market for both d hybrid devices & dedicated pdas. However, someday we shall have to say goodbye to dedicated PDAs as we know them today. They will evolve into integrated devices as technology opens new vistas.
Meanwhile, d line between phones with pda features and pdas with phone capabilities is growing so indescernable in many instances that there is no point bothering with it the issue. Call them what u will, d hybrid device is here 2 stay.
I also agree that most people dont need pda functions, so d 'normal' phones will stay for d average Joe, definitely coming with multimedia features.

So, if pdas are not dying, why sony exited from the market and stop producing clie and why palm is also slowing down and thinking going out too. What's coming after T5?
Worldwide sales of pdas are down by 20% while mobile phone users are going uptrend! If pda sales are going down, why some other brands are selling well such as hp and O2 xda II mini?
Wht's your predictions?
