EDGE is not big in Euroland so SE don't supply those handsets there.
Edge is important to operators in the US which is why the Z500a and S710a are available there.
Why SE don't supply EDGE handsets elsewhere I don't know. I am sure if there was a big enough demand they would supply them.
In answer to the first post, Europe will be predominantly 3G and not Edge because mobile operators paid billions for the 3G licences and they are not going to recoup that cost by letting everyone use Edge.

But, almost all high end se's are on sale here. But they fall in direct competition to similarly priced handsets from other brands which again offer more value for their money! For example, a person going for a p910 would be more interested in the 7710 which offers him the touchscreen experience with the added advantage of edge!

I think this is more by default than by design. If SE can sell their products in India then they might as well do so, but that doens't mean they are going to specifically tailor them to the Indian market.

Scots, i don't think implementing edge means "tailoring" a phone for a specific market. I see it only as a means for catching a hold in a market like india which now may not be important in SE's radar but will certainly will be in the future. SE needs to improve their reputation in providing competitive products. Is it really THAT difficult to make a phone edge enabled?

Thats realy cheap. In Sweden we pay like 2 USD/MB for a GPRS connection (sometimes with an additional monthly fee) while a 500 Kbps connection through your phone can cost around 28 USD per month with unlimited download/upload + own e-mailaddress + own WEB page (I myself has a 26 Mbps conection with a montly fee of 57 USD/month with no upload/download limits).
This is why Edge and UMTS as an internet connection to your home is not that popular in the Western World, while its probably much more important in development countries like India. However, for home environment SE promotes their UMTS/EDGE/GPRS quad band PC card.

Well....i just need an answer in yes or no to these questions. Would implementing edge in their phones affect the profitability of se? Will it cause unnecessary financial burden to the company? Would it have affected the price of the k750 had it been edge enabled?

Maybe they want to release EDGE phones in India but are just not able to get them out quick enough.
It is all fine and dandy releasing lots and lots of new handsets but don't forget it isn't simply a matter of designing them and putting them on the shelves.
You have to provide the support, spare parts, aftersales, marketing, distribution etc etc etc and just maybe
thinks EDGE in India is not a high a priority as other sectors (eg K600) - at the moment.

How can someone say EDGE is not important in Europe ? Is more widespread then UMTS ! Only a handfull of countries does not offer it and just about all will have at least one EDGE network before this year is over.3G is rolling out very slow and if you want faster internet access EDGE is the way to go.
