Such as? Technology aside we face the same problems now as we did then. There were famines 5,000 years ago, there are famines now; there were wars 5,000 years ago, there are wars now; there were natural disasters 5,000 years ago, there are natural disasters now, etc.
Famines? There is enough food to feed the world, the only thing famine causes is maybe rich/greedy farmers losing profits!!!
Wars then compared to wars now??? Some countries can end the world right now if they wanted to!!! give Mugabe nuclear weapons and you will see!!!!
Natural disaster are acceptable, though I believe now that 80% are caused by POLLUTION!!!!!! which in the past 5000 years we made!!!
el nino is a result of polution/Global warming and stuff!!!!

The end of the world has long been an intgral part of many religious and cultural systems. It is perhaps obvious to state that in believing that there was a Creation there must also be an end to that Creation.
It is interesting to note the differences in how people percieve such concepts. Personally I do not necessarily view creation as having had a beginning and I do not see that it will necessarily have an end either.

I'm glad you said that and not me,othewise everyone would be at me for bringing bush into the discussion.
Although i don't actually believe that we control our own destiny...my belief is that many things are pre-destined and just happen without us having any control over them...It could be very possible and likely that with all the nuclear bombs the great U.S.A has along with other rougue states such as Israel and North Korea its just a matter of time that one of these states most like the U.S or Israel triggering one off an that could start a change reaction such as the terminator 2 scenario: (judgement day). World War III...and that would be the end of world...not likely that machines will take over.

That doesn't explain how it is different from the situation 5,000 years ago.

End humanity you mean. Nuclear weapons do not have the capacity to destroy all life on Earth, all human life perhaps. That is no different to the situation 5,000 years ago. A suitably powerful ruler could have killed all of humanity if given the means to do so.
Nuclear weapons don't really have the capacity to destroy all human life, not with their present numbers at any rate. Nuclear weapon deployment would have to be such that multiple weapons were use don particualr targets to ensure accuracy, thus diminishing the effect of numbers. Large tracts of inhospitable land would likely be unaffected by nuclear weapons and owing to the vast areas involved it is likely that isolated pockets of humanity would survive.

Natural disasters have always happened and there are in fact less massive natural disasters today than there have been for thousands of years.
Pollution does not cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, asteroid impacts, etc. Pollution can also only be laid in part to describe climactic changes as the Earth itself goes through periods of climate change irrespective of human involvement. Tornados, hurricanes, etc have always happened and they will happen whether humanity exists or not.
So far you haven't demonstrated anything problem we face today that was not also faced or could have been faced 5,000 years ago.

Even though i am very much a agnostic when it comes to religion and faith i do believe that the world will come to an end sometime in the near future and that will be judgement day...it could come about from self distrution most likely american and israeli nukes or natural disaster: Giant comet impact.

@axxxr
Nuclear war is in fact the most unlikely means, by which humanity will become extinct. Th eonly two countries with enough nuclear weapons to even approach extinction levels are America and Russia. Russia has no real capacity to wage war anymore and is too heavily dependent upon the West in terms of resources and money to make war with Western countries feasible.
America thereore has no major enemy to engage in a full scale nuclear war with. The most that we might expect is a small scalle exchange of nuclear weapons with an enemysuch as North Korea or Iran. Such an exchange would liekly result in great damage on a localised level, but not a global level.
Far more likely is a natural disaster such as an asteroid impact or a plague.

scotsboyuk i would'nt say nuclear war is the most unlikey way the world will end..my belief is that it is the most likey way you cannot dissagree with the fact that their is enough stockpiles of nuclear weapons on the planet that it could destroy this planet 7 times over..even though the former sovet union is longer able to use its stockpiles i would think america along with israel will use its stock on the middle east as..american's have a incredibly bad histoy when it comes to nuclear weapons as they have used then in Japan as you know...so to trust them now would be foolish.. my gut instinct says they will use them again.only this time the distruction will be 100X what Hiroshima or Nagasaki was.
