iphone UI is flashier...
Amen
@rizzamarv:
then nokia will have more time to renovate the UI to make it flashier than what we could see atm
anyway there's one more platform(which i also like) promising flashy UI as well: the Android
Android also looks nice, kind of like a mixture between iphone UI and UIQ 3.3 but as far as I know its still quite far off..?!?!

This is what I believe Paris will be:
Hardware:
5 MP Slider with autofocus, flash led, and touch focus feature, Video 30 fps at QVGA resolution
HSDPA
Wlan 802.11b/g
Bluetooth 2.0+EDR A2DP, NO infrared
D-pad, +- keys, status LED, Pop port, M2 slot, dedicated lock/unlock key for the keypad, m600-like qwerty keypad, NO Jog-dial,
built-in GPS
2.8" 262K-color TFT display of QVGA resolution
128 Mb of RAM
Probably >300Mhz processor
Perhaps Tv-out and accelerometer
Software:
UIQ 3.3
Opera 9.5
Quickoffice 4
G700/900 Homescreen
Probably Dashboard with widgets
Improved UI interface in order to allow easier thumb operation
G700/900 Notes application
Media Center
FM Radio with RDS
Wayfinder 7
Google Maps
I've pointed out only the essentials.
Of course this is just a supposition and a personal opinion of mine. Still, I belive that the final version might have even higher specs regarding the video capture features and/or screen, depending on how SE see this device: the next P series flagship or something between until the real competition Slayer shows its face

If you look at the SE phones coming out and their target markets, you are still missing a full miltimedia device. This is probobly a Walkman but one with a touchscreen, yet to come. Any news on that since Beibei is said to be a non Walkman smartphone. Nothing really high end has been shown so far, as good a Paris is, it will be bettered very quickly since there is nothing ground-breaking.
It seems that Paris is going to be released just to replace the P1 short term while they put most of their efforts into a ultra high end replacement. So whats the point? If you know that there are around 7 new phones coming this year, who would go for Paris unless it is cheap. SE would not allow leaks of their best phone right now, normally you would save the best for the end of the year.
The SEX1 was totally hush hush because it is a new venture for SE to go into WM. Its a decent device as well and I guess it stole the show at the time. I just feel that Paris is destined to fail and get KO'd by SE themselves, they got to get the price right or it may flop.

And IMO your assumption is based on... No facts.
How can you know that SE is NOT going to leak it's highend? Maybe actually just the opposite, knowing people quite wait for that.
Also, we don't "know" that these suspected 7 devices will appear, and WHEN. It's still a speculation based on rumour!
I remember November last year, so many people were sure something's coming. Now it will be May 2008!
I think that the announcement will be the answer.

Talking about the future of mobile devices... I've recently read some detailed articles on the new concept phone from Nokia, the "Morph". It's said to be at least 7 years down the road but if it is anything close to what they say, it will change the way we think of mobile devices. OLED & nano technology... It's absolutely amazing if they can pull it off... Apparently Nokia is working with Cambridge University on this project.

As to the leaks, Paris, up until a week ago, was the most concealed SE phone I can remember. It was essentially a shadow--we knew it was there but we couldn't perceive it.
How can a phone that was billed as ultra-high-end be demoted to mid-end in a less than a day when the hype surrounding it has been building since November? It's incredibly funny that high-end specs can be established and confirmed over and over, yet it takes one or two random people going, "O hai, Paris iz not too speshul" to completely flip information on its head.
I know rumors are just rumors and they need to be taken with a grain of salt. But this kind of device simply doesn't get talked about and whispered about and lusted over and billed as something that will "slay" the competition unless it can actually deliver.
Paris has got to be the flagship we've been waiting for. Yeah, there are other phones coming out too, but one of them has got to be top dog, and Paris fits the bill. Ignoring all the doubt and skepticism, it is exactly as the rumors theorized months ago. And on the outside chance Paris isn't it--one of the other phones will be and will probably be announced at the same time as Paris.

Sony Ericsson have stated that the replacement for the P990 was the P1, which was essentially a P990 in a different form factor, with more memory and some bug fixes to make it usable (however based on an 18month old platform).
I see no sense in

creating yet another smartphone at a similar specification to the P1 and I doubt they'll go back to the flip design which looks dated now.
I really hope the specifications for Paris/P5 (whatever it's called) will be upto date and they can ship the thing on time and in volume.
At first I was worried about UIQ3.3 but the more I think about it, I don't want to see another debacle along the lines of UIQ2 -> UIQ3 and all applications have to be rewritten from scratch.
Here's looking forward to more photos, the video and the official announcement.
