How confirmed is it that the Snapdragon S3 devices wont get updated? Is there a possibility Sony might change its mind? Or it is only a rumour? Many thanks.

Very little chance they will change the decision. And all manufacturers aim to update their phones to at least 1 new Android version, 2 in case of high end.
Sony has given the 2012 line up 2 android updates - from 2.3 to 4.0, and 4.1.
