@ Tsepz_GP - whats that weather / news widget you have there ?

I still cant see why moving a minor 4.1 to 4.2 would take months of work by Sammy.

Im still a firm believer than companies like Samsung should give the user the chance to download vanilla Android for their device, rather than wait for a skinned version which takes them months to customise for the new version.

Etaab

Its the News&Weather Genie Widget, i havent a clue why Samsung got rid of it in the S3 as it is a default Android app that most Androids have since Froyo, the S2 and S1 (after being updated to 2.2) had it to.
If you want i can email the apk file to you, just PM me, otherwise check 4Shared, just search GenieWidget.apk

I completely agree, the ideal situation would be if we got the choice of vanilla Android if we cant wait. I remember there was talk of the Sony Xperia S joining a Nexus type programme, and that more phones would be added over time, maybe the S3 will be included eventually, will try find the article.

Thanks ill check it out.

I just think it would be easier for companies like Samsung to give the user the option of vanilla Android after they've bought their products. I said this a while back when people were complaining about their Arc phones on this forum not getting ICS for many months. Surely if you've bought the phone, you've given the manufacturer you're money and custom. They should then offer you vanilla Android first then the skinned version when its ready. Im sure many would happily install a basic version and simply use apps and widgets to get the same effect as the skinned version.

Multi-window mode for the Galaxy S III on its way with the Android 4.1.2 update

One of the sweetest, if not the most sugary feature in the new Nature UX of Samsung as found on the Galaxy Note II , is that it includes
the multi-window mode , allowing you to split the screen in various
ratios, and run two apps at once.

You can be watching a video or checking out a document, and
chatting with comments below them, for example, but the
possibilities are endless, as you can mix and match any two apps
on the phone.

There were hints that this multi-windows mode will be ported to the
Samsung Galaxy S III as well, despite that it has a smaller screen
than the huge 5.5-incher on the Note II. We'd say 4.8" is still big
enough for some serious multitasking, and are glad that it's coming
to the S III.

Apparently this multitasking regime will arrive to the phone with the
next Android 4.1.2 update, judging from some leaked screenshots
that display a trial update for a Galaxy S III on an Israeli carrier.
The split screen mode is also coming to the gallery, where you have
the albums/folders on the left, and their content on the right, just
like on the Note II.

The source says the 4.1.2 update for the Galaxy S III should be
coming before year-end, and we've heard December mentioned
before, so not much waiting left.

Sounds good, but i wonder why they didnt implement this from the release of the S3.

It was probably still in development at that time, even the Note2 didnt have it in its initial release FW until a update came a week or so after release.

Such features though you'd think are easily implementable on 2011 technology imo.

The problem with todays phones is, they've dramatically improved in performance with their powerful chipsets, but the software is still basic when compared to a desktop computer with the same computing power.

Indeed, i know the S2 could definetly handle this, it performs like it still has so much power left.

Thats because they do.

Lets face it, other than high end 3D gaming 2011 phones are still as capable as even the most recent.

Regarding the S3 camera, from reviews it seems to have issue with exposure and the colour green, is this right? and can it be corrected by adjusting settings?

It seems these issues are the 2 main issues regarding image quality.
