why don't we stick the whole world in our timezone?

Only part of the UK (England and Wales, to be precise) is thinking of changing. We'd have TWO time zones. We might even have to learn to use the 24 hour clock. And perhaps grasp what a kilogram is!

England wants to move to CET but if Scotland did, it wouldn't get light in the morning until 10:00hrs. That would be intolerable in many jobs.
