@Rookwise, I've had exactly the same problem several times with the network randomly going from full or almost full to nothing. After 5-10 seconds, the signal comes back, the internet works fine for a while, and then it disappears again. It doesn't happen all the time and only seems to affect the phone when I've got 3G coverage. At the time I assumed it was a problem to do with the network in the area I was in. I'm on O2 as well....

2 problems:
1) I can't seem to update or install apps from android market. it's been a while now, a couple of days. And I'd always tried with Wi-fi. Anyone else have the same problem?

2) once in a while, my phone would turn off, then turns back on. is that normal?

@big d
What region are you in? At what stage is the market failing? i.e. can you access the android market and browse apps, does it start the download and show you the percentage progress bar? does it start the installation? does it show any sort of error or just hang? The recent updates to market availability in certain regions may be effecting you or it could be a connection error somewhere or it could be firmware problem.

As for the restaring, I've had thos happen a couple times, could be a duff app that's running havoc with throwing errors in the OS. I removed all the rooting utilities and unrooted my phone and it stopped happening. I've also experienced it with poorly made apps or killing necessary built-in apps.

Not just me then. Have got a replacement sim coming just in case as mine is 2 years old. I had to argue with them though cos apparently its impossible for this to happen (yeah right) I live only a few meters away from a mast and i have recently encountered the same problem no matter what phone my sim card is in.
Then i was told to send my phone back so they can check the antenna. The antenna cant be faulty if it works fine with other network sims in the phone.

@Indiandawg: I'm using firmware Version 1.6.

@Ricky_D: I live in Kansas, USA. using T-mobile USA.
-I can access Android Market and browse apps. It happens when I start dowloading, it's unsuccessful. each and everyone.
-I do have several different apps installed and have Advanced Task Killer Free to "kill apps".

-Actually another problem I have, ATK. when I use ATK to kill apps, sometimes, maybe I choose some selected apps, the phone locks the screen afterwards. I place a code lock on my phone in case a different sim card is installed. I would have to enter the code in order to unlock.

-also, what do you mean by rooting?

I would highly advise staying away from task killers, and allow the system to do what it needs. Task killers can close down necessary programmes and services and so do more harm than good. I uninstalled System Panel and ATK 2weeks ago, and find that my X10 runs a lot better, there's simply no need to use a task killer IMO atleast, as Android has great task management.

@Big_D

I've just had exactly the same problem with the market on my phone: I could browse apps fine but when I tried to download, I just kept getting download unsuccessful.

Fortunately I'd recently read an article on the various issues with Android and this problem happened to be one of them. Try the following steps which were mentioned in the article and seemed to fix the problem for me:

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Set the filter to 'All' using the menu button
Select each of the following apps in the list and press 'Clear Cache':

Checkin Service
Google Apps
Market / Marketplace
Google Talk

Now restart your phone. When you first go back to the Market, you'll need to sign in again with your Google account, but hopefully after that, everything should be working!
