It's going to be ridiculous if the existing players have to pay exorbitant fees for 3G licences when it's in Nigeria's interest to ease access to information technology...they're looking for a quick buck in the short term but better technologies will improve Nigeria's competitiveness in the long run.

I agree with you brix25!
I just read this bbc report that said SA networks paid only 6million rand(under $1m) for a 3G licence, how true is that?

hi everybody just passing buy..hope yal had a nice vals day.about the stopping of free gprs..do any of the networks offer unlimited data packages?..4 example here in the uk t-mobile web n walk is £7.50 a month or a maximun charge of £1 per day, while three has an unlimited data package including free skype calls from ur cell and free windows live messenger for just £5 extra.logically it seems to me that networks in nigeria would make more from gprs if they followed similar pricing.

mariwan: logic has no place here. definitely if we could pay the same amount here for gprs no one would grumble. but as we pay closer to £50 a month for MTN's unlimited package, grumble we must! by now, if mobile browsing was affordable, we'd have much more activity in our local internet content scene. so many wap ideas i've had but there is no market population to sustain it.

lawi: the problem with that is how many millions is your family or the federal govt willing to pay if to say they nab your cousin? the oil company most likely be wont as bent to secure the release of an indigene as they would an expatriate!

The main motive behind the kidnappings is money -in the millions from what I hear. I remember my PH pals teasing me when they visited Abuja some months back. They said something like, "Oh boy, seeeee oyibo de waka about here yanfu, yanfu... una no know say na big bucks de float around so...?"

Did u Guys hear the threats that Asari Dokubo gave his trial judge? One of these days, he may give an order for Foreigners to be killed, THEN YAWA GO GAS.

@brix I will soon give a major explanation why we seem to be fixated only on politics here.

Hi guys, anyone miss me? I guess not.
MTN connection is really a big flop. The call quality is poor, it takes forever to get a connection, and God help you if it is a Glo number you are calling.
When eventually you get connected, its either you can't hear the other party, or you hear a totally different conversation going on between two other people. I one day listened in on a lady in an office telling her friend on how she was scheming to upstage her married boss's wife on valentine day.
I guess they have taken on more subscribers than they can handle.
GPRS is another thing, its available but unusable. Once in a while, it works, but only for a few minutes, and they its back to status quo.
I think I'll have to relocate to celtel HQ until they reinstate my gprs privileges.
I even paid for a cdma internet connection on Intercellular, but its not satisfactory.
Oh Nigeria my Nigeria! One day, (hopefully in my lifetime) we will have cause to smile.
Enjoy your day guys, and keep the thread alive.

@Amby, I feel you bro.. MTN is such an unreliable network in Nigeria.
It's a known fact that glo is the best network in Nigeria, followed by Celtel.
If you are still interested in browsing on your Celtel, check and see if you have the GPRS active first. I have 3 lines and can still browse on one of them after tweaking the settings.
If you are interested in CDMA internet, I would suggest you try Multilinks.
