I had the same problem but solved very easily. It's not firmware related but a hardware 'glitch'.
When you take the back cover of your phone you can see a white mechanical piece on the phone that slides in when cover is open. All you have to do is bend the metal components of the cover SLIGHTLY so it presses on that mechanism a bit more. I think you can figure it out by yourself how to bend the mechanism so it works.
Really not much of an issue.
I got the point, and with the picture it's clearer.
I have tried and it works perfect now.

It would be the same as the other models as it would have the same amount of coats of paint used and have the same finish. Its just the paint that has been used that is different as it's lead free making it more environmentally friendly.
