@thuggie .. I thought HP laptops came with this nifty pre installed app called HP update...at least mine did.... it scans for any drivers that need updating, & downloads/installs them from the hp server...alternatively you could manually get them from the hp website...

@mrao

I think it's all done off the HP website, there is an automatic product identifier and upgrade advisor on their support pages. I've never managed to get it to work properly though so you'll have to tell me the secret

looking for some advice on laptops. got two in mind that suit my budget and needs. one has a pentium m 735a, the other a sempron 64 3200+.
now i know very little about processors in laptops so ive no idea which will perform the best given the rest of the specs are almost identical.
any help greatfully recieved

There's not alot in it to be honest. The strengths and weaknesses of both chips kind of cancel each other out if you know what I mean, meaning that they're both going to perform pretty much the same.

I guess that since the sempron is a true 64 bit processor, it might be an idea to go with that simply in case you wish to upgrade to Vista in the future. It's possible that with a 64 bit capable OS running, the sempron might outperform the Intel but even then I think the differences won't be astonishing.

However, I must admit that I'm guessing here. I haven't come across any reviews that test both of those chips head-to-head, although I have built desktop machines using sempron 3200s and they were more than fast enough for general use i.e. surfing, office stuff, video playback etc.

cheers cycovision, ive always used amd myself when build a pc so i get a bit lost with the intel stuff.
the sempron a touch cheaper so might as well save my pennies for some thing else like a bag to put it in

Hey mate,need some help here.My pc is not playing any audio.ive checked my drivers,uninstalled them re-installed em but still no luck.when i open volume control,it says'no active mixer devices available,to install mixer devices,go to CP,and use add new hardware'.But all drivers that used to be there are listed.
Apparently all this happened after i did a sys restore some days ago.Although all my other hardwares working perfect,audio is dead.
And one thing else,if i reconnect my speakers and mic,Soundmax does recognize them,but after i set them up its again the same story.
Any suggestions??

Very strange! Starting with the obvious, have you gone to Device manager and checked that the audio device is not disabled? I'm just thinking that even if the drivers are in ok, it won't work if the device is disabled in windows?
