Q: I have R7A001, R4F01, R3B01, R3B01 (India). I still have the following problems

a) the phone hangs (usually at the most imooportune times) sometimes when I want to send a message (SMS), sometimes when I am recieving a call, and sometimes when I want to take a photo. My Win-XP laptop and WM5 Atom are more reliable (now that IS saying something).

b) speakerphone volume is quite low.

c) I sometimes get the message corrupt memory card (I have a 1GB card) even after having formatted the card (on the 990).

d) battery life is 1.5 days instead of the expected 4-5 days.

Where do I go for a solution. I have missed a nice photo-op, an important call (the phone showed caller ID and starting vibrating - though not ringing - but would not let me take the call and I had to re-boot the phone) and this is getting frustrating.

SE (India) says that rebooting the phone 2-3 times a day will help. I say WHAT????

@navinadv

1. Reflash
2. Back-up, Format Internal Drive or Master Reset
3. Restore
4. Don't restore any old data, setup again/re-sync with outlook etc
5. Don't use the 1GB Duo card (is it a good make?)
6. Don't install any third party apps at all
7. Monitor the results and let us know what happens

Thanks for everything.
1. what is Reflash (does it mean powering the phone off and on again)?
2. I have my contacts backed up on my laptop's outlook.
3. how and what do I restore?
4. Restore without resoring old data? How do we do that?
5. my Duo card is from Sony.
6. I dont have any 3rd party apps but just installed swiss manager

@navinadv

okay,

Simpler solution but you'll lose all your data and set-ups. If you don't mind losing ring tones and internet/wap settings. Actually you could copy ringtones and images to the Duo card. However I still think you should remove the Duo card initially and don't install any apps at all.

Go to Tools>Control Panel>Other>Master Reset the PIN is 0000 and select to delete everything.

Re-start the phone and see if stability improves.

For info on reflashing please see the SE Support web site on the SE Update Service software.

Here is what I do ,

When bought my first P800 I thought of this idea until today it worked perfectly fine with me.

When I buy a new Pseries, I always load the following to the phone first.

Contacts, Calendar entries, Internet, GPRS dettings and other vital information for me.

Then I immediately make a full back up of the phone . Now the back up containes only the vital information . Then I load 3rd party applications and other stuff . If there is a problem with my phone's behaviour , I automatically restore the FIRST clean and fresh Backup, and load the other applications manually later.

By doing this you will guarantee that you don't back up any damaged, faulty files.

I like the idea but it also means that you will have your old contacts/calender entries when you use your clean backup...

On a new FW or a new P series phone, I always overwrite/transfer my contacts, email, calendar & to do's from Outlook. It ensures that there are no bugs or compatibility issues from older phones or firmwares. The only snag is that the contact pictures get garbled, i have to in put each and every single picture again.

I also take the pain of reinstalling every single third party application again. All settings are of course set again and lastly the media files are always in my external memory so it's not hard to transfer the files using my laptop.

IMO it's the longer but cleaneer way of moving data.

lame excuses IMHO lol

loving the P990 everyday

What are?

For some some reason, you seem give more credit to people that appear one day at esato just to talk bad about the P990, than to me me, Jah, Sleepyhead, Joel, Johnex, Spawn, etc

Your having a laugh mate you still have not explianed why my complaints are excuses? If anyone here as much as mentions there may be problems with the P990 you jump up an down on them so why would I give you credit? people come here for information, not a hard time.

The facts are plain to see, the P990i does have many faults and should not have released the phone with them unresolved sorry if you dont like it but it is the truth.

I am an fan and have had their products since the T68, but I am not blind to their faults and I refuse to applaud expensive products that do not work as advertised. I did not pay for my P990i and I am mightly glad too, but I do feel sorry for guys and girls who have spent hard earned cash on a "flagship" phone only to be let down so poorly by so I will not keep quite when it is plain the thing is not right.

We are the customers if think we are happy then they will not change! and I am far from happy.

Very well said nitrofan. Its been a year we waited for the SE flagship phone and now we wait for the stable firmware. I managed to get rid of the 990i after a month of mix emotions when using it but will consider getting it back when it does what it suppose to do.
