The GS4's screen is specially made to work with gloves, there's an option in Display settings to make the screen even more sensitive for glove use. I agree though, the GS3 generally worked fine with gloves, it's screen was very sensitive, but it wasn't always very intuitive as the GS4 is when using gloves, this comes part of the benefits of Samsung implementing Air View as it requires a more sensitive display.

It works a little too well

I set my S4's screen to be very sensitive and what happened was that when I get a call as I pull the phone out my pocket it's screen senses my skin on my thigh through my pocket and it sometimes pulls out the Reject Call menu

so I turned it off, will turn it on when it gets REALLY cold here next month, when I go back to wearing jeans instead of skinny pants.

Nokia started the gloves thing on phones on their Lumia's. It's far too awkward using with gloves anyway trying to type

Nope, there was Xperia sola, though I am not sure if there are older phones that did. Should be handy during the cold season.

Im not sure if my S3 was meant to be used with gloves but I found it did yesterday at work when wearing blue latex gloves whilst checking with my S3's LED inside some equipment for contaminant leaks. I would have thought the rubber or whatever they are would have blocked my skins conductivity.

That happened with the Lumia 620 I had. it doesn't have the super sensitive screen but it still was sensitive enough to be used through clothing
