@aka Dus... backup/restore is an app in your app drawer. just start it up.
That's the weird thing, it isn't there!
Worked it out - I had to browse to the m.sonyerics...... URL to download the back up app using the default browser. Opera wouldn't let me do it.
Installed it and backed up and now ready for 2.1!

I know buddy. I haven't been so active on Esato but from last 2 days it's like I'm constantly checking the sites. I still doubt we will get update today. May be November? cause from what I know 2-3 countries are getting update in November like Holland and Japan.
Let's see

When they said 'end of October' they really did mean the very end of October didn't they.
Anyone else feel this must be one of the hotly anticipated and talked about single handset firmware update for a while?

True that!
But it's one of the most talked about firmware update is because X10 is the best handset ever made by Sony Ericsson, at least from my point of view. I have used couple of smartphones from SE like p910i/p990i/M600i/P1i/X1i and currently using X10. No doubt previous phones were absolutely stunning and with good loaded features but somehow there were lot of bugs. I don't find X10 a buggy phone at all from what I have read and heard from other blogs and websites. It has run very smooth and nice and thanks to Android and SE for such a fab handset. I expect a lot from 2.1 update

I think the reason it's the the hotly anticipated handset firmware update for a while is because this is what the x10 should have been from day 1. 2.1 is a massive update for this phone not just a tweak to the settings and firmware, in many instances they'll completely overhauled it (the keypad for example on the 2.1 update looks much improved - bigger space bar - thank you!).
I reckon SE will now pretty much keep this as their standard android interface/UX going forward for all their android devices and just tweak it now and again.
Yes and the suspense is killing me as well although I'm on Vodafone so I'll have to wait a bit longer until Vodafone approve it, I think people are so desperate for this update.
Let's hope SE learn from their mistakes for the next release of the Xperia series.
