Hmmmm, I'm not sure to be honest. It's obviously something to do with system restore, I've never liked it!
Will it let you restore to an earlier or later date than the one you already have?
Failing that, a repair resinstall using the XP disk might be worth a try?

Well i've tried to restore to an earlier date, but the bug with that is my pc suddenly restarts on its own during the restore process.
Same thing happens if i scan my registry with reg mechanic.
coming back to the audio prob, sound card failure maybe??

Yep, it's beginning to look like that. Certainly worth trying a different sound card if you can get hold of one just for testing. It could even be the hard drive since that can often cause reastarting in XP. Have you tried a checkdisk? If that hangs or causes the PC to restart, it can be a sign of a dodgy hard drive.

Scandisk seems to be working fine.Difficult to find a spare sound card but will try if a os reinstall dont solve the problem.Maybe the restarting could simply be because of a virus or something.Unfortunately i dont hve spare time until weekend to do all the backups before the re-install
OK before i do that, tell me if there's a way i can uninstall these-
Legacy Audio drivers
Audio Codecs
Legacy video capture devices
Media Control devices
Video Codecs
None of these have the option to uninstall from device manager except for the Soundmax integrated audio driver

No, you can't uninstall those individual devices since they're integrated into the main audio driver
Try the repair reinstall first though, it's worked for me in the past with driver problems.

@deep, are you using onboard sound? There's an option to enable/disable it in the bios, though not sure if that can be effected by a system restore.
