the black has a tinge of brown (especially when viewed from an angle). This is just a side effect from the way the metal plate is anodized. The plate starts out silver, then it is anodized layer by layer with brown and then only black. This also gives the black finish a nice metallic sheen. IMHO the back cover differs from the overall body color because it was probably done as a different batch.

Thank you. I thought I was going mad lol. I guess It is called Espresso Black after all.

Still very beautiful phone pictures just don't do it justice. I was amazed how its pretty much the same size as my W880i and the larger screen is very noticeable next to the W880i.

Cant wait to be able to put flash themes on it

Oh BTW it does have stereo speaker but only for music playback. It uses the back and the front speakers for that, for ringing it only uses the back. I guess its so in case you had the earpiece next to your ear it doesn't deafen you.

It also has a sleep mode clock, when you press the volume rocker it shows time and any missed events.

The music player is also improved over the W880i I think the sound quality is better.

All in all a worth while upgrade from the W880i.

here is a good piece of sound to see or should I say hear, that indeed it has stereo speakers:

Doesnt all SE phones have that now?

The cybershots like k800i have a sleep mode clock thatll show even when the phone is just laying there.

Hi All,

Loving this phone so much since I bought it. So glad I ditched the cheapy plasticy k850i

One question though, Im on Orange and I find the signal strength is up and down all the time! Cant say I noticed this with my k850i or k800i.

Is there a smaller transmitter in the w890i? Is it possible for the built in arial to actually be faulty?

I find the reception on the W890i is not as good as on the K800i or K850i.Probably due to the metal build

Well people were saying that all the new SE phones didn't have one. I guess they meant it didn't have one visible without pressing the volume rocker.

A couple of questions.

1. Looking at my software version in the string it has CHINA in it. Does that mean its the Asian version? Any difference between it and the European version besides the language pack?

2. does it show a H for HSDPA or just 3G?

Hi, yes it can do push email. I have just set this up on my silver w890i from orange.

I have been reading (with great interest) all the different views on here about the w890i and theories about how it works.

Contrary to many views out there, this phone DOES have stereo speakers!!! ok, wanna know how i know? wanna have proof? do this: have a look at the phone. the first speaker is the earpiece itself on the front of the phone. if you look on the back of the phone, in exactly the same place as the earpiece on the front, you will see a set of six 'dots'. this is the second speaker. to hear it in action ( and hear the stereo), play music and then hold the phone side on, in line with your nose. you will hear the stereo!

also, I would like to add the build quality is superb and cannot be faulted. i upgraded to this phone over a w810i (which had the AF and the photo light), and a k850i (which i HATED because of the simply vile touch buttons at the bottom of the screen). Whilst i lament the loss of the AF and light, the camera really is not my main priority with this phone.

the music player is first and foremost, a big improvement over previous versions (the w890i has v3.0). i listen to my music all the time and the walkman player really is excellent.

the main reason i upgraded to this phone though, was its slim design and battery life, which again i am thoroughly impressed with. it looks dazzling in silver and i will be buying a screen protector for it and crystal plastic case.

does anyone else have this phone on orange? is it me, or does the shortcut button not work? or at least i dont see the point of it? all it shows is the main menu on it (as a shortcut) and then whatever else is running at the time. is that it? can anyone help please?

many thanks for reading.

You can assings different shortcuts of your own there. For instance, you could add a shortcut for calculator, bluetooth, TrackID etc. Then again, my mum's phone came with more than the main menu shortcut in the activity menu (and so did my K810).
