sorry, I wasn't suggesting to only use the payg sim in the iphone, but just put it in for a few hours every now and then.
a full firmware restore will return the iphone to the way it was before you did the jailbreak, including all the neccessary internet/mms/visual voicemail settings. In fact even when unlocked the o2 iphone remembers these automatically whenever you put an o2 sim in it
and yes, doesn't matter what sim you have, once jailbroken you can enjoy all the extra apps that are available

Hi masseur,
No, you were spot on !!!

It was my choice of words!
The back up with all email etc settings failed so I am starting afresh!
I will jailbreak again, perhaps tomorrow, and then, swap sims around and just check for internet and mms settings.
I will also try out the 4 apps that you suggested!
thanks,,,,,, as always!

okidoke. both paid for apps that I mentioned have trial periods so there's nothing to pay unless you're happy
but there's lots more apps out there that I haven't tried so I'll be keen to hear any that you give a go and like
actually, I do have a question. I use data most of the time and found on O2 with the 2g, 3g and 3gs that it would often sort of stagnate trying to find web sites, even ones I was just using. This was mostly while moving, i.e. on the train etc. it was fairly frustrating at times
as soon as I put another sim in (tmob) its smooth and silky like gliding over ide, no delays and every web site just works
have you had the same experience on o2 and was there as much an improvement on vodafone. I had planned to trial voda but the tmob impressed me as much as it did before I went to o2 for the iphone that I ended up not bothering

When I put my Vodafone contract sim in and entered all of the settings I felt that Vodafone was much much faster than o2.
I accessed new sites so that I could feel that there was nothing in the cache, if there is one, that would speed things up.
I think you know what I am trying to say.
My contract with Vodafone finishes next May and, because there is no Passport for Japan now, I feel I can think hard about the best network.

yes, you can install cydia and rock together
I have a problem today. I'm not sure how, but something called
tune up got installed on my pc over the weekend and I noticed it startup with itunes this morning.
I immediately uninstalled it but when I got to the train to watch my usual podcasts, I found that all my ipod content was completely missing from my iphone, although looking in settings -> general -> about, my memory usage is unchanged meaning it is still in there somewhere. Fortunately I also setup the HD2 to sync the same podcasts so all was not lost
I connect to my pc at home from work using gotomypc and I can see that all my content is still in itunes.
I can't do much until tonight but if this rings any bells to anyone and you have a solution please let me know.

ok, panic over. once I synced again everything returned to normal
while researching this I read some good things about that tune up app making me wonder if I should have kept it.
Does anyone here use it?

Masseur!
I received a Tom Tom voucher and was wondering if your opinion of the iPhone cradle remains the same?

@ofiaich, re: your questoins about the iphone car kit.
I took it out for a spin today and have to say it works very well... as a GPS.
Its very loud too, much louder than my Garmin and I could hear it very clearly over my MR2 engine during acceleration!
while the app lets you call POI's hand free from within the app, if you want to call a contact you have to exit the app and dial as normal meaning that for the duration of the call, you're not getting directions. That was very unexpected.
Its also weird that the connection from the cradle to the phone is via bluetooth, even though the phone is plugged in to the cradle using the iphone connector at the bottom. My garmin simply downloads the phone book via bluetooth on conection and you do all the dialing etc from the Garmin without the need to touch the phone, and I fully expected this tomtom app to do the same.
in general the cradle works well but there are some seemingly illogical things about it and no, I don't think its worth the money
