Yup, I too thought of postal stamps / currency notes.

And (sea) tides on Feb 29. But thats once four years.

or Hurricane Katrina.. only thing is it came MANY times a day. Lifes lost were of victims, but saved were US forces/ officers in Iraq (who got called back to Homeland for the emergency).

@anish, answer to #1 is 911 right?

9:11 happens twice a day.

9-11 (sep 11) happens once a year

9-11 disaster killed thousands

911 (rescue) saves lives

@k4m!k4ze, I have a long solution to your problem:

We start with 3 containers, A-19L, B-13L and C-7L where B and C are full. The steps here are done such that if the target container is full we stop pouring and keep the remainder in the original container.

0. Start
--- A=0, B=13, C=7
1. pour C to A,
--- A=7, B=13, C=0
2. pour B to A,
--- A=19, B=1, C=0
3. pour A to C
--- A=12, B=1, C=7
4. pour C to B,
--- A=12, B=8, C=0
5. pour A to C,
--- A=5, B=8, C=7
6. pour C to B,
--- A=5, B=13, C=2
7. pour B to A,
--- A=18, B=0, C=2
8. pour C to B
--- A=18, B=2, C=0
9. pour A to C,
--- A=11, B=2, C=7
10. pour C to B,
--- A=11, B=9, C=0
11. pour A to C
--- A=4, B=9, C=7
12. pour C to B
--- A=4, B=13, C=3
13. pour B to A
--- A=17, B=0, C=3
14. pour C to B
--- A=17, B=3, C=0
15. pour A to C
--- A=10, B=3, C=7

Now we have 10 litres in the 19L container. There's probably a shorter combination but I'm sure the idea is pretty much the same.
