I would hope that the business model of obsoleting your high-end device after 1 year would be avoided. Why improve the hardware when the software doesn't take advantage of it. SE should just focus on software. To hell with more megapixels... The SE panels are very nice looking and lag-free. The entire WM device should be that way. I would love to see Microsoft introduce a non-laggy GUI.

If the hardware remains consistent, that would lead to better software. I'm not going to name the o-so-successful smartphone that follows this paradigm.

Because there is no SMART phone that follows this paradigm, BUT there is the iFruit also known as the iPhone.

So you're suggesting that SonyEricsson follows the BlackBerry model by Research In Motion yeah? I'm sure SE would love to upgrade the firmware of the so expensive X1 and I hope they learn from past mistakes with P990 to P1 that they WILL. However, I fear the revenue droping from their previous 3 qtrs is getting so great they cannot afford to, with new hardware to be announced May 28th, or they can afford to - cancelling new hardware in the Xperia lineup and release the FW upgrade; all depending on how we look at it.

Can anyone confirm about the X1 supporting: VGA video recording @ 30fps smooth or even QVGA @ 30fps, please? I've gone back about 20 pages and found nothing detailing this specifically save for 15fps which is unacceptable for me to upgrade to the otherwise esquisite X1.

Thanks.

Yep, the laggy-ness is the main flaw of the phone, IMO. Its the 'defect' you notice most since this is what makes everything take longer than it should. Its Microsoft's fault really, but then there is WM6.5 coming, which is apparently faster.

My concern is also that their radical cost cutting measures will prevent them from even considering extending X1 support to allow for the WM6.5 upgrade. Nevertheless, if they were to release a successor to the X1, how different could it really be? A different look, maybe no keyboard, maybe a better camera, but thats about it. Unless they want a copy-paste second xperia, the only option then is to remove the keyboard, in order to offer a different form-factor. Its therefore probably more viable to just keep supporting the X1. If it was as fast as it should be, it would pwn.

Try downloading and install these applications and follow closely the instructions on the 1st post:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3042555

Although thread starter said it is more for the 1st ROM, it worked well with the 2nd ROM as well. It boosted my phone speed by around 3x faster than the original ROM!~

2nd ROM posts extracted through a link from the 1st ROM post:

Is the 2nd ROM link you posted for WMPro 6.5 to be on the Xperia X1i or X1a or both? I ask because I found a really ridiculous priced Xperia on craigslist in my city for $300CAN so I may take the plunge. Test out WM once again.

I think it was meant for wm6.1 only but I think you guys can give it a try, if not then revert back to the original ROM. As for whether it can work on X1a or X1i I guess it works on both platforms.

As always, back up your stuffs first before you guys try it. It works fine on my X1i, but my score is not as high as theirs, the most about 6.2+ and it varies. Overall my phone is a lot faster and camera also seems quicker. I general, quicker in almost everything.
