but on MPE, in the profile section, down the bottom you can select wat band ur phone recieves ie gsm or 3g, is that the same as changing it via ur mobile settings? (i cant change my w910i, three branding)

Yes. On my K800 via patch can select Only 3G:



Before patch when click UMTS on MyPhoneExplorer:

Centur! Many thanks for the info dude, I was about to Debrand my K850i and couldn't find my last installation so checked here and I'm STOKED!

GSM on roaming saves battery life significantly. Just think when you roam, your hoping towers some quickly, some not. Due to this if towers are spread thin, it could be that the phone will NEED to boost power output to communicate from/to a FAR away (up to 7miles I think) tower. 2watts at that range to do so.
