All network providers will be on GSM come November!
What I'm worried about is that a new separation may form in the near future as some networks decide to go the Wimax route instead of LTE.
LTE has wide industry acceptance while WiMax is an American standard doomed to failure but propped up by the fact that Google are investing in it and will be releasing Android on it.
Yes, WiMax is the new CDMA

and NZ Communications are heavily committed to it, while Vodafone are committed to LTE. I don't know where Telecom stand but it'll probably be the opposite of Vodafone

while M2 will probably go where Vodafone goes or may be influenced by Optus in Oz.
I hope these telco's get thier act together and all go the LTE path or else we'll see more incompatible mobile networks like to past and I though we'd just fixed that situation.... finally!

why cant they be more like sony ericsson or nokia - they all decided to use bluetooth, imagine if they didn't, sony stereos would be able to connect a play back from sony ericsson phones but not nokias lol

Yeah, only with that battle consumers stayed away from both formats until there was a winner meaning the issue was resolved relatively quickly. I can't see NZer's not having cellphone accounts until the LTE/Wimax battle is resolved.

good point. maybe most of the companies will go with one and then the other companies will follow. at&t, vodafone and o2 probably will have the most effect on the others

Yeah I'd say Vodafone and AT&T would have the most effect on others too, but the thing is that those two companies won't agree. AT&T being American will go for WiMax, while Vodafone will go for LTE, causing confusion everywhere. But if the whole CDMA vs. GSM is anything to go by the Americans will lose out again.

Exactly.
WiMax in the US is being pushed by Sprint Nextel who I think are CDMA; AT&T are obviously GSM. It looks like CDMA networks are mostly the ones resisting LTE, some things never change eh?

That's why I'm worried about Telecom. I think NZC are gambling on WiMax giving them an advantage but they're betting on a loser IMO.
I've emailed National Party Communications and IT spokesman Maurice Williamson about this issue; come November, he may be Communications Minister. In the unlikely event that Labour wins a 4th term(!?!), I'll email their relevant Minister.

So i can't say that the k850i is super amazing or anything i miss the ol' k800i and it's lack of Vodaphone branding and the custom cam drivers are head and shoulders above the developments in the new camera software...
I guess i have some adjustments to make it's quite tricky to text on for example

Well I've never felt it was anything special TBH but it certainly has good camera specs so if anyone can make it shine, I'm sure you can!
Congrats again to Oli on his wins in the Best Photoshopper and Best Australasian categories of the 2008 Esato Awards. I had a sense that we kiwis were in with a good show as the Aussies have been very quiet of late and the 'Australians where are you?' thread has generaly gone AWOL! At the same time Oli has led the charge here and become a prolific poster easily eclipsing my post count!

Well done!
I'm very pleased at recieving a gong for my V640i review! I put a lot of effort into it, tried to be as honest and impartial as possible while still conveying my enthusiam for this underrated phone. Writing is something close to my heart just as drawing and photoshopping is to Oli so it's great we've both managed to do well in our respective 'fields'. Not being able to vote for my own review, I voted for PeterKay's W960 review on the strength of its photos and 80,000+ views which is simply incredible.
I'm pleased though to be 2nd Australasian rather than 4th Australian as last year
