Not silly at all! RAID is controlled by the motherboard itself, not windows. You build up the PC as you would normally, up to the point where you're about to put the windows CD in. But instead of doing that, you switch the PC on and immediately start up the raid configuration utility. As I said before, this is done either by pressing a key on the keyboard (like getting into BIOS) or by booting up the supplied CD.

The utility is basically a wizard that does that following:

1. Detects your hard drives
2. Asks you what kind of RAID array you want to use (typically raid 0 or raid 1)
3. Sets up the raid array, saves the information and prompts you to reboot.

After that, the computer effectively thinks that it has only one hard drive! So you just go ahead and install windows as you normally would.

As long as you read the instructions to make sure that you don't forget something (like creating the driver floppy disk if required), you'll be fine!

I am about to do a complete reformat and reinstall of my dell laptop. What I would like to know is if it is possible to burn all the windows updates and sp2 etc onto a cd so that i can install them from the start as the CD that came with the laptop is only XP sp1 and I have to spend hours doing the online updates when i install using this cd. (Hope that made sense!) Is it possible to do this?

Any help is much appreciated!

Tom

Depends what parts of the deal you are concerned about. Is it that you think it's an outright scam, i.e you send the money and recieve nothing at all or do you suspect that the tablet PC is being falsley advertised, i.e. you'll recieve an battered old obsolete model rather than the one you saw?

Or do you think it might be stolen? If so, it could in theory be traced from the serial number or maybe even MAC address if the owner registered it with the manufacturer. But generally it's difficult to know for sure if a tablet PC is stolen unless it has been deliberatley marked in some way, with an etching or UV pen for example.

Have you got a link so we can have a look at it?

Yeah, but the new customer registers the PC, so it won't be tracable that way yet.

However, if a boxfull of them fell off the back of a lorry, the distributors might know the serial numbers of all of them.

It's a tricky decision to make. If it is knocked-off, your chances of getting caught are very slim, but the penalty you pay if you do can be very harsh.
