Only in Nokia 808 gallery there’s always extreme colors saturation, yes it’s an user’s desire, a forced desire for the poor/wrong colors in auto mode. You mistake natural colors with dull/wrong colors.
Comparing 808 colors with a camera like Sony Rx100 at iso 100, Nokia on the left Sony on the right:

In this case Rx100 get 3.18 ∆C in the ColorChecker test, my little camera with smaller sensor get 2.77 ∆C, Nokia 808 is way too far from real colors.

wthc meant extreme saturation on the low end not the high end of the scale!
Nokia went with neutral colors with the N8/808 which is not the right approach for auto and especially on smartphones!
IN the N8 times, compared to the cartoonish colors other smartphones made at the time, it seemed way more pleasing and natural.
But now all OEMs adjusted that, the iPhone imo delivers the best colors by a far shot currently.
If Nokia goes back to 808 saturation, contrast, and sharpness levels they would be shooting themselves in the foot this time over.
EDIT:[b] Besides, you showed us what these picture control settings do on the 808 and they are a joke same as they were on the N8. Can't tell what Nokia were thinking when coding that!
They need to go the standard approach. Go iPhone 4s to 5s way.

All in all, a fun phone to have - below are some of my first shots with the phone just messing around.
This photos were taken a night just to see how easy it was to hand-hold night shots....
This was just me messing around with some macro shots... the beer shot was my simply laying the phone on top of the beer glass to see if it would focus on the bottom.
Some low light indoor shots... for the wine glass, the phone was stood up on the end (using camera grip) like a table-pod and the shot at the bar was hand held.....

The 1020 has tons of potential.. I am really looking forward to see your photos after the lumia black and the RAW support come out. It should be better in terms of signal to noise ratio and a bit better color reproduction.
And I agree.. what we are discussing here doesn't concern most users out there. The 1020 is in fact more than most of us really need for day to day photography.
In terms of low light, the 808 is unusable at anything lower than 1/20 ... you really need a tripod, where the 1020 can probably handle 1/10 or even lower.
I still feel like if you put the 808 on a tripod and set the iso to 50 it will produce a cleaner image overall, but I might be wrong.. I haven't really had a chance to test them myself so if you ever get a chance give them a go.
And by the way.. that's one sweet collection!

quick review:
camera is NOT better than the 808, including the xenon, is not powerful as 808. However after the 808, is the best camera, it beats iphones, Galaxy S, Xperias, etc...
A Mobile-Photographer's dream.
