@ ambyzown: Believe it,its available(maybe not yet in Nigeria though). There has been no new news posted on esato for a week or so.Its available in England as I type. see www.allaboutsymbian.com
@ aya,brix,coola...: I think I'll have my humble pie now(a small slice though).I just did a side by side comparison of Opera and Firefox loading Yahoo and Firefox was indeed faster. HOWEVER, Opera is very much the browser when clicking the Back button.

The P1i has hit the shelves (and web shops) for about a week now around the world. My link with Otigba says he is yet to see a unit on sale in Nigeria yet. Of course, give it a week or two and there'll be someone in Lagos or Abuja clutching one soon.

Early adopter reports have been fairly good. Some general complaints about camera picture quality seem to cut across board though.

I lost respect for SE symbian a long time ago after the buggy p990, but may give this p1 a try if the price is right. I've been reading some good reviews so it seems I will have to learn how to call with the jog dial.

Don't we all eat our words every now and then. I can't count the number of times I ranted about against a phone, then turned around a purchased it much later. Somehow, these manufacturers seem to win. They must have psychologists and sociologists on their advisory panels

Talking about eating words I might soon patronise these chinese copy phones with dual sim capacity. I hate carrying 2 phones and I have been doing that since Celtel slashed data tariffs. I played with 3 different touch screen types this month and I am quite impressed. I'll give the dual sim capability and java support a thorough test before committing myself.
Bottom line is that I need a device with:
big touch screen
java support for oppera mini
good keypad, not necessarily qwerty
email client support
slim and light weight...
Who says our needs are not dynamic?

Hello pples!

Recently bought a nokia e90 and pronto, the second day, i did a silly thing and I smashed its outer screen. All efforts to get a repair since than had come to nought; i-cell @ opebi, etel on phone and even the Nokia care line. Otigba also drew a blank, the screen is not available anywhere in Nigeria to my knowledge. If anybody have some clues, can you please share it? Thanks.

Meanwhile, I was at Otigba recently and I saw a large number of iPhones for sale between 40 and 70K and I was wondering how could the phones have been legitimately brought to Nigeria. I guess there was no way, considering it was exclusively made for AT&T.

I thought this was the legendary Nigerian 419 at work and if EFCC will leave the politicians alone for ICPC to handle for a change, may be they will be able to tackle this 419 scourge.

Every shop that has an iPhone should be made to explain how they got it or get sealed up and its proprietors dealt with.

@brym!: I feel you, man.

@adrusaa: Pity about the E90. Your present options include to fly it out for the repairs or wait till it has adequate support on ground here.

About the iPhones, those guys must have purchased in bulk and then had them unlocked. Honestly, only a legal personal can analyse the legality of the action. The UK laws for example uphold people's rights to unlock any phone. Nigeria apparently has no laws governing such. It looks like the Police can cash in on this one though. I'd love to hear Apple and AT&T legal departments respond to it.

But in the meantime, this means we should be expecting to see Nigerians yapping away on iPhones; shouldn't we?

No, not so fast. iPhone is at present locked to AT&T. The only "unlock" solution available allows you to use the thing as an expensive movie and music player. The phone part will be tricky as far as I can see. Right now in Nigeria, iPhone is worth nothing as a phone, because you cant pop a sim into it and yap away!!

The iPhone has of yet still not been cracked...Although last week I read that hackers have been able to make it work with AT&T's PAYG sim cards. It's a while till they truly unlock it and by the time that happens Apple would've launched the EMEA version (hopefully with 3G/HSDPA) which would make all these iPhones floating around pointless.
