I dont' know why some insist on having CCD rather than CMOS, infact CMOS can be much better in some cases, I didn't say CMOS is better but it's better some times, tobe honest both are equal in image quality at this time, it was old days when CMOS was not that much but now both are equal, except in low light where CCD is better
"to prove what CMOS can do, take a look at 'Canon 1Ds Mark III' & 'Canon 5D' & 'Sony Alpha A700' all are Pro or Simi Pro DSLR cameras and ALL are using CMOS sensors !!"
infact both are same, but CMOS can work with fewer components and uses lower power + it's smaller than CCD in the same pixel count, these two things are very valuable in mobilephones.. maybe the third one is problomatic, as smaller sensors makes more noise, but in mobile phones where space is precious, larger sensors will need more focal length too and bigger lens and and and, this is bad in mobile phone
just a question, comparing to other's manufacturers 5MP solutions, what are they using CMOS or CCD to have better picture than

's 5MP solutions ? well I think

have to choose better higher quality sensors only no matter of CMOS or CCD...
The same post over and over

please read abubasim's explanation to clarify everything

a CMOS sensor is no way better nor par than a CCD sensor, or i should say far from being par/better yet. and we are talking about cam phones here not those monstrous cameras where there are large CMOS sensors to cope with the quality we opt for.
as abu-basim said:
Jc, not the first time you bring in dSLRs when defending CMOS against CCD, is it?
I agree with you about the need for better quality CMOS sensors. But since you mentioned the A700 dSLR, Sony's huge IMX021 12 MP sensor is of course a great improvement over older CMOS sensors but still quite a long way to reach the IQ of CCD sensors. Read the specs and compare the IMX021 with the ICX495 5 MP CCD used in the i-mobile 902. Pay attention to the cell size (pixel size) and sensitivity on page two of both PDFs. Notice that the cell size is six times larger in the IMX021 while it's sensitivity is only three times higher. Wouldn't that mean that a EXMOR sensor has to be twice as large as a CCD sensor to reach the same sensitivity?
Imagine if an APS-C sized cmos sensor was shrink into a size that would fit today's slim phones then how much impact would the pixel size/sensitivity reduction cost on the quality of the image output?

Back to BeiBei - if that is to be a G range phone then given its a new more advanced CPU (OMAP3rd gen) and new UIQ (3.3) then will it be placed higher above the G900 despite only being 3.2mp and no flash?

@ n3o
It certainly isn't bigger than 2.4" so it should have the screen size of G900.
And also it is a touchscreen phone so it shouldn't have a smaller screen than 2.4" cause that would be way too small.

We ALL though that very SAME thing about SE's legendary 2MP +LED + AF from the K750i when it was put into the P990i. Although it takes GOOD pictures, it didn't compare. Why? The camera & LED went from platform phone designed from the ground UP to flaunt it. The Symbian OS Core & UIQ was not "designed" that way from the ground up.
I don't agree with that. I have both K750 and P990 and I have done some testing - in daylight only and with latest P990 fw. Consistently, pictures taken with the P990 were sharper and the color was better. I'm not saying the K750 pictures were bad just that the P990 ones were better.

Play.com has G700 at £250 and the G900 at £300! The price of my sister's Nissan Micra (P reg)!

im intrigued as to why they chose a 2.4 inch screen for Beibei? Looks like they could easily fit a 2.6 in there. Same goes to the G700 and G900.

@ Xellar
You can take your kids to school on your G900 then and watch Formula SE mobile phone racing. Only Ashly Cole rides his mobile phone and I pray that he is the only one who does.
My point is that it is quite steep considering they want UIQ for the masses. P1 is £250 and you get a rocker qwerty. Yeah the G phones are better but still. Lets see what they will be like on contract.
