Yeah HTC was on the verge of being bankrupt and they had to be salvaged by Sony. Apple, on the other hand, has given up on its mobile division, losing too much since Samsung had reigned and had to invest on its MacBooks and their upcoming iTV. Since the buyout, Sony decided to use both companies' flagships' names and converge it to one iconic name, hence the Sony i1.
