I will solve my problem by purchasing another brand. Fooled me once, shame on you (SE). But it won't happen again, that's for sure, otherwise they will learn that this is a good marketing strategy. Should they replace my K850i with a brand new C90x because I served as a lab rat for their FW test, then I'll go for that.

I hope that you'll right but I never seen a firmware that implements a brand new features in a phone.
Then you haven't seen the Nokia S60 phones. A bunch of them recently got Flash Lite 3 (ie viewing flash videos like Youtube directly in the browser), Demand Paging, changes to the mediaplayer.

I think we will see at least one more FW version after this one, but the time frame between their release will increase even more, to 5 or 6 months. I think they will start concentrating on fixing the bugs of their other beta releases: the C series, Xperia etc.
There is also the possibility that because they have loads of new phones to focus on, they could forget all about the K850 and move on. Although most of us have had a bad experience with this phone, a lot of us will solve our problems by purchasing a C902 or even C905. So SE don't really lose out.
SE does lose if the 850 owners get together and file a law suit against it,
A cell co or any other companies job doesn get over after selling a product ,its just the first step ,it should provide a very strong after sales support and a co which is just at the nascent stage of growing should never ignore its customers or it will take only 2 or 3yrs for it to shut shop...
The 3 points dat any economist must have learned at the early stage of his student life ,for a successful business to run u must follow 3 simple steps:
1.Acquiring new customers.
2.Make the most profitability of existing customers.
3.Create newer products and increase customer base and retain existing customers.
By selling the 850 ,SE followed the 2nd point ,but after dat it forgot the 3rd point.
The economic cycle goes like this:
1.Acquire-Growth.
2.Retain-Growth.
3.Extend-Growth.
not lose in the retaining stage.

Could having XP Service Pack 3 be a reason for my problems?

I would never buy another brand but i would wait atleast 2 months b4 goin for a new product and check esato and if it has no probs than buy it,I am not super rich to keep buyin SE's test products...

,and ya if SE replace my K850 with a C905 ,then its welcome.....

You were having semcboot problems?
Try pointing the driver prompt to the USBflash folder:

Ya my bro got Flash lite 3 on his N82 and many new features in his shit NOKIA, and if I am not mistaken N95 is a pretty """old"""" product but it also got these features and also an auto rotate option like the n82..so y can't we expect new features from a mkt loser if a mkt leader can provide these features.....

All my phones were sony ericsson. Not a real fan, but I never have problems, so I like this brand.
But k850, changed all

Too many problems for one device! The ocassional restars I have with 031, were really infuriating. till BROD...
The R1F thing, is unveliebable, most people have a firmware with potential BROD, and sony takes soooo long?
I donīt need R1F, I have to flash through davinci, but came on sony, people donīt like to have a potential BROD in his pocket!

They will add new things in the so called "old" phone coz they don want to lose any more loyal fans (not customers like other cell cos),
How do u think they will make the existing K850 owners switch to C905 if they can't fix probs on an existing phone based on the same platform....Q4 is a long way guys....
and its the last K series High End phone ...so sad ,so atleast give is a fitting farewell,by at least solving the existing probs like BROD and add some goodies....

Dude, as much as I would like to think this would be true it isn't. Why would SE want to implement new features into an old phone, when most of those new feature are the selling point of the c902. Whats the point of buying a more expensive when you could buy a cheaper phone with exactly the same content...

My computer does not get as far as asking for the drivers, it displays "SEMC Flash Device" in the found new hardware bubble, and my computer freezes up. I think it got as far as SEMCBOOT the first time I tried it, but it will now not get any further?
