That's true. The high quality CMOS sensors have bigger surface area too, that's why they can be used on DSLR cameras. The current technological limit for CCDs used on phones (with smaller surface area) is about 6 MP, anything more is obtained by firmware and interpolation and obviously some sacrifices are made for bigger MPs.

Im pretty sure there are 8Mp 1/2.5 CCD and CMOS sensors out there.
and again,the phones dont get the best CMOS sensors either,together with the trend of smaller sensors make things worser.

I think we will get the date though of the next announcement on April 23 with the Press conference. If you remember last years Q1 result presentation we were given the May 8 P1i announcement date. I expect the same this year.
